When I win the lottery, I'm taking up __________ as a new hobby. I would stick with my current hobby - genealogy - but would use some of the winnings to travel to the areas where my ancestors lived (mostly in England, some in the US and some in Canada). I'd like to see where and how they lived, and check for more records in churches, cemeteries, city halls, etc.

Thanks Pats!

Happy rest of Wednesday to those who are still up!

Technically here it's already the 20th, but yesterday I didn't have time to answer.

Today's Question(s):
When you were in school, did you have to memorize poetry?

At the primary school and at the beginning of the secondary I had to study a lot of poems. In some periods I had to memorize a poem every week!

If so, do you remember any of the poems you had to memorize?

Some parts, usually the beginnings.

And if so, would you give us the title(s)?

There is "San Martino" by Carducci, that I already posted last week in the 11/11/14 question.
Some other poems that I studied and that (more or less) I remember are
-some parts of the "Divina Commedia" by Dante
-"Erano i capei d'oro a l'aura sparsi" by Petrarca Petrarca: Erano i capei, rhymed translation
-"L'infinito" by Leopardi L'infinito - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
-"X Agosto" by Pascoli X Agosto - by Giovanni Pascoli
-"San Martino del Carso" by Ungaretti TOM CLARK: Ungaretti: San Martino del Carso
-"Se questo è un uomo" by Levi If This Is a Man - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
-"Meriggiare pallido e assorto" by Montale Ita http://www.la-poesia.it/poesie-del-9...to-1101-1.html
.................................................. .......Eng AGNI Online: Meriggiare pallido e assorto by Eugenio Montale

(in the links there are the translations of those poems)

Is/are there any poem(s) you particularly love?

Ironically I had to study Italian literature for 8 years (5 hours every week!), but I've never liked this subject so much. And then I've always preferred prose over poetry.

Bonus Question(s):
What kind of things do you like at breakfast time (choose any that apply):
fried eggs?
omelet?
pancakes?
waffles?
hot cereal?
cold cereal?
blueberry muffin?
bagel with cream cheese?
other?

I usually eat a tea with some biscuits.

Just for Fun:
When I win the lottery, I'm taking up
________ as a new hobby. no ideas now...

W Marconi!!!!!!

I'm a day late, but thought I'd still take a stab at:

Today's Question(s):
When you were in school, did you have to memorize poetry? Yes, and I still remember some of the poems, including several stanzas of "Little Orphan Annie" and "The Charge of the Light Brigade."
If so, do you remember any of the poems you had to memorize? Haha - see above.
And if so, would you give us the title(s)? Haha - see above.

Is/are there any poem(s) you particularly love? I have a favorite poem, in an anthology. The author is unknown. Here are some selected parts:

"Thank God for you, good friend of mine. Seldom is friendship such as thine.
. . .
When I recall from time to time how you inspired this heart of mine,
I find myself inclined to pray, 'God bless my friend this very day.'
Thank God for you.
. . .
Some day I hope with you stand before the throne of God's right hand,
and say to you at journey's end, 'Praise God, you've been to me a friend!'
Thank God for you."

Good friends truly are a gift from God.

Bonus Question(s):
What kind of things do you like at breakfast time (choose any that apply):
fried eggs? Yum! With bacon, please.
omelet? I'd rather have eggs scrambled or fried than in an omelet.
pancakes? Yum!
waffles? Yum!
hot cereal? Pretty good.
cold cereal? Pretty good. I like Kashi whole-grain cereals.
blueberry muffin? Pretty good.
bagel with cream cheese? Pretty good.
other? Steak and eggs, with American fries and a big glass of orange juice. I haven't had a breakfast like that in years.

Just for Fun:
When I win the lottery, I'm taking up first-class traveling as a new hobby.
