Today's Yuletide Questions:

I've always liked bells as a holiday decoration.
What do you like to see as decoration this time of year?
I enjoy seeing Christmas lights displayed on people's houses. I also like wreaths, garlands, poinsettias, candles and fireplaces with stockings hanging from them.
Who would you like to find under the mistletoe?
My husband
What was the last list you wrote?
This is going to sound funny. I was making potato pancakes for Christmas Eve, and the recipe called for 3 1/2 lbs. of potatoes. I weighed each one of the four potatoes I bought on my diet scale, jotted down the ounces for each on a piece of paper, then divided the total by 16 to find out how many pounds I had. I should have just checked the grocery slip for the weight!
Did you check it twice?
No, it wasn't that complicated to add up the list of numbers. I used a calculator to divide by 16, though. That's higher math to me.
Any last minute shopping?
No, I didn't forget anything.
What's the hardest work you've done on Christmas day?
Trying to figure out what to serve after I smelled a rancid odor coming from the oven and realized the turkey breast had gone off. I had thought I was clever by buying the turkey five days early. Big mistake! I had to quickly figure out something else to serve for Christmas Dinner. Options were limited as all the stores were closed, and I had to make do with what was on hand. I think we ended up having bacon sandwiches. Luckily it was just the two of us that year.
Did you send or receive any Christmas packages this year?
Only the packages that I mail ordered from L.L. Bean and the Vermont Country Store.
What would you call Shirley Jones, David Cassidy or Susan Dey in a Pear Tree?
Aaargh! I'm not touching that one with a 10-foot pole!

Foodie Questions ~ Holiday Edition:
What are your favorite holiday desserts, candies or sweets?
I l-o-v-e fudge, pumpkin pie, mince pie, gingerbread men, foil-wrapped chocolate such as coins, balls and Santas, stollen, spritz cookies, almond crescents, vanilla sugar cookies, chocolate mint Hershey's Kisses and chocolate mint M&Ms.
How do you feel about fruitcakes, the dessert that is?
No, thanks. Every year by request I bake a British-style Christmas cake for my hair stylist, who is from London. It is much like American fruitcake except that it has mostly raisins and currants in it but not that much candied peel and candied cherries. It is infused with sherry while aging in a tin and then is covered with layers of apricot jam, marzipan and royal frosting. It's better than any fruit cake I've ever tried, but I still don't like it that much because it's really, really sweet.

My mother used to make a "no-bake" fruitcake from graham cracker crumbs, margarine, sugar, candied fruit and rum flavoring. This mixture was then packed into a loaf pan and refrigerated. It was completely inedible and was the consistency of a brick, but I didn't want to hurt her feelings, so I thanked her, took it home, chucked it in the trash and then told her I liked it. She made me another one the following year!

Thanks, bjh, and Merry Christmas to all.

All I wanted for Christmas was Monsoon this little black kitten with ears that look like bats. So cute, so Halloween. John said NOOOOO

I hope you all are having a better Christmas then I'm having. Something really traumaic happened at work early Monday morning that still has me quite freaked out. This one will haunt me for a long time.
