I have two as well. Lucky me.

His mother, alas, is in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's, but even before that she was more than a little detached. I think she likes me mostly because I took her problem child off her hands.

His stepmother does like me. She's all right. There's some bad blood there between her and her stepchildren, but we don't see her that often.

Yes, I do believe my MIL likes me and may even grow to love me...but in the beginning of our marriage, which was a short time ago, I believe MIL had issues with me because she really didn't know me as well and probably thought I was a little like hubby's first ex wife (whom I dread comparisons to). But as MIL and I have been hanging out, getting to know one another...I can honestly say she likes me and I like her. She knows I am am an upfront, candid, blunt speaking individual who takes care of her son...and that's all she really needs to be concerned about. I was raised right, I know how to take care of a man and will take care of my future children. Anything else...well, hubby and I are our own family and interference is not really necessary.

Cheers to in laws that get along. I really don't understand the mentality that no one is good enough for my......You would think that if a mother really loves her son or daughter unconditionally, that they would make a strong effort to be good to their spouse to show their love? Do you think fathers-in-law are easier to get along with? Unfortunetly mine died a few months after we got married so I couldn't say.

I know my FIL loved me....my MIL did in her own way. I would ask them to stay for dinner all the time..my FIL would instantly say yes, she would say NO I'll cook that for you at home.

I think sometimes MIL's feel threatened and they may feel as though (as stupid as it sounds) their sons won't love them as much when they take on a wife.
I agree Puffie that they should be happy that someone loves their son as much as they do.
After my FIL died, that is when it got really bad as she was alone and she did everything to try to break us up so she wouldn't have to be alone. As we didn't live that far from her, my hubbie would stop in after work every day to check on her and visit and that still was never enough. Some people you just cannot please.

My hubbie was adopted and she always played the adoption card. Pretty much you owe me. That is mean. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh there are so many stories...so little time.

I get along fine with FIL as well. He too had issues with hubby's ex-wife (she is a horrid individual). I am not sure about why the mom acted that way in the beginning but who knows...I don't really care as long as I get along. To me, it's difficult having in-laws at times because I have a set of parents again and sometimes too much of a good thing...is exactly that. You know?

And yes Puffle...cheers to all of you who do get along. It's not an easy task at times.

There is an old saying, ''A son is a son til he takes a wife, a daughter's a daughter all of her life" but still, most men are very devoted to their mothers, even if the mothers choose to resent the wives for whatever reasons.

My MIL likes me so-so - and I do not like her. My husband doesn't even like his own mother. Long story. My FIL just passed away almost 6 weeks ago - he was great.

Has anyone's mother successfully broken up you and your significant other? I only had this happen once to me and her son was in his thirties at the time. He traveled, so when he was out of town she would take that opportunity to make me feel like s**t. Then when he returned, whala...nice mommy would also return! Like magic.

Thumbs up Mine was a peach!

I lost my Mother-In-Law a while back and really miss her. She treated me like the son she never had and never interfered with anything going on between my Wife and me. She lived with us for three years and passed on of old age, but happy that she spent her last years with her only Daughter (only child actually).
