Going to the movies alone (the best, cell phones, kids, people)

There are two things you usually don't see people doing alone; going to a fancy restaurant and going to the movies. I just moved to a new area and don't know anybody, and debated going to see a movie but thought it would just look too wierd to go alone. What do you think of people who go to the movies alone?

Gosh, I go to the movies alone most of the time. I never thought anything about it. And I don't have to share my popcorn! Now going to a nice restaurant alone....I have to psych myself to do that. It is always awkward for me, but I do it anyway if I want to try the restaurant and have no one to go with.

I don't like going to the movies unless I'm forced to with my kids! But if I did like it I would have no problem going by myself.

I do go out to eat by myself all the time though.

I have no problems doing things on my own - sometimes I really enjoy it. I'll go to movies, breakfast, cafes, smaller restaurants (not up-scale). "Fancy" restaurants may be a problem, it would make me uncomfortable.

If I go out to eat alone, it's not at a fancy eatery. I'll eat alone after shopping. I place the shopping bags in the chair across from me, but I never speak to them.

Going to see a movie by yourself is the best. You never have to compromise what movie to see, what time to see it nor at which theater to see it. And really if you think about it, it's not like you are going to be talking to the person you go with during the movie. And if you are one of those talkers, you're the ones I hate (along with those who forget to turn off their cell phones even after all the reminders).

Now eating at a restaurant is the thing I cannot do alone. I just seems awkward to me sit at a table alone unless it's at a food court at the mall. Even when I am on a business trip, it's still hard to eat alone in a restaurant. I will usually just get room service.

I was all set to see the "kite Runner" by myself tonite. My sister called me at the last min. and now we are going together. I am fine either way. I see people all the time come in alone to see movies. I agree with alterego you do not talk with anyone when you are watching a movie.

It would not bother me to go to a theatre alone except for one thing... Usually, I am so worn out that if I sit still for any length of time, I go to sleep. Soooo...I would either have to cozy up with the person sitting by me or take someone with me to wake me up at the end of the movie!

Seriously, I have fallen asleep at movies, and yanno that is the best sleep till you wake up and realize you missed it.

I've never been to the movies alone, but then I can't remember the last time I went out to the movies. But will eat out alone all the time.
