I guess that's one of the best things about tattoos. Lot's of "ordinary folks" are repulsed by them

It's too bad there's still so much ignorance out there in 2008. But if nothing else, it's eye opening to see. Interesting feedback. Thank you people.

There is a big difference between not liking the idea of tattooing oneself and automatically making a myriad of assumptions about the character and/or hygiene of another person who has one.

Exactly. Most people fail to see that distinction, even in their own personal reactions.

Let's say you see a person who looks very friendly, approachable and sincere. They seem intelligent, educated, happy, healthy and carry themself with confidence. They look like they might even be successful and have money.

Then taking a closer look, you realize that their arms are covered with tattoos. Not just a small one, but big ones that really fill of the arms. Not criminal tattoos, not skulls or gang names, but designs of a more artistic or spiritual nature.

How would this change your impression of this person? Would it make you think different of them? Would it make you more repelled or interested in them? Would you still want to be this person's friend? Would you think less of them, or think more highly of them in some way? Would you avoid them and not want to be associated with them? What else would you think? What other thoughts do you have about tattooed people?
Don't like them, for God's sake just cut and dye your hair it will grow back. An over weight older person with a playboy bunny tattooed above her breast or elsewhere is disgusting. Both my boys have small tattoos, neither of the girls for the very reason........ laying in a nursing home ain't gonna be pretty.

Oh. Fashion that requires surgical removal. That makes sense.

And FunkyMonkey, people with tattoos are no more individual that your average Rotarian. All you're doing is trading one brand of conformity for another.

Actually, there is a new type of ink that remains 'permanent' until the wearer wants it gone, at which time the ink quickly disappears by being zapped by a laser. Of course, no self respecting tattoo artists would ever use such an ink, but it is out there.

Tattoo removal has come along ways and I bet that in five years time someone will invent a technique that will completely remove a tattoo quickly, efficiently and painlessly.

Speaking of ordinary, tattoos are so common, I hope you don't think they make you look cool?
