The “bestest” vacation is every one of them. Each is special and meaningful in memories, time and location. Don’t take them often but every one was special in there own way. Hawaii was two weeks of island hopping that was unforgettable, yet a simple week being spent with my elderly parents who provided more happiness then could be imagined before hand.
I think a person must spend each day as if it were a vacation and enjoy it to the max, there may never be another one like it.

For me it was one we took as a family when I was about 10. We traveled out to Oregon to visit family, and along the way we stopped at every quintessential tourist trap you can imagine. Dad hated the Interstate system so we did the whole trip on the backroads and old state highway systems. Along the way we got to see some downright silly, as well as some amazing things. If there was a national Park or area of historical interest we stopped at that as well. It was during this trip that I found my love of the trip as well as the destination.
I look at the great Interstate system and all I can think of is how much of the "real" U.S. those who are batting down it to get their destination are really missing. I still like the back roads and small towns. I still like the "Mystery Spots" and the "Reptile farms", the "Worlds largest _______" in small towns. I still like eating at Mom & Pop places where my family is probably the only non-locals in the place. Something my Father told me all those years ago still rings true to me. He asked what U.S. stood for, of course I answered the United States. He said that while that may be true, it really meant "US", as a nation, together, no matter where we live or what we believe, all working individual jobs but contributing to what the other countries see as American. and that no matter where we travel, it is always somebodies HOME and we needed to treat it as such.
Best, most eye opening vacation EVER!
