Mag. Mike, you don't have to be in your 60's to retire, you know. DH and I were blessed to be able to do so at 55 and 52 respectively.

I'm now 53 and thinking that maybe 60 isn't so bad, either.

Retirement is not for the weak of heart or mind! (Yes, UBatz, you can quote me on that)

I know, but my point was, why they (AARP) kept sending me these incessant junk mail, which I kept getting every week it seemed like, there's so much information about us to marketers out there, less than a week after I turned 50, I started getting junk from them. I didn't mention that I called them after a couple of pieces of mail had arrived, and I told them politely that I'd like to have my name taken off their mailing list, and the person I spoke with said okay, it'll take about 3 or 4 weeks. More junk kept coming from them after 3 or 4 weeks, and that was when I called them again in March or April of last year and I told them in a tone of anger to take my name off their list and I wasn't interested in joining AARP! That was when they finally listened and I stopped getting their junk mail.

First time I was asked if I wanted the senior discount I was 48 Me and my three daughters were out having lunch together, and when the young waitress brought me the bill she said to me "Will you be asking for the senior discount today, sweetie?" My girls had to laugh out loud at the expression of shock, dismay and embarassment they say was on my face
..Any way, now they don't have to take the chance on asking me, just a quick glance tells them I am eligible I don't like to be called sweetie, darlin, honeypie though or be talked to like a child by well meaning clerks

You know that comment I made earlier about there being special rates for cruises if you're over 55? OK.

There are also special rates if you're a past guest and there are other rates if you are a resident of Florida (in my case).

I've played with each choice separately and all together. The "over 55" is not cheaper than if you were 30 or 40 or 54. But living in Florida is.
Now living in Florida and over 55 and past guest will get you nowhere! :-)))

Can't blame you on that, Mag Mike. We joined ( at DH's insistence), and we're STILL getting their stuff in the mail to join.

I'm with you on that sweetie stuff, blue. GGGGRRRRRR

Most of the restaurants in my area will give you a discount without even asking...guess they can tell your age

I still have a few more years to go. What I like about it is eating senior discounts like Denny's or places like that now.I do that once in a while now. And also when I have to pay to get in somewhere,I would use the senior discount. Why not?
