Default Christmas Decoration Ideas

Since I've found some new ideas this year I thought I would share them and feel free to post some of your own.

1. Buy the plain red, green or white rosary candles (usually found at places like markets that cater to the hispanics). Get the ones w/ out the saints or Virgin Mary. If you have a stairway with the open railing going up it and a little bit of a ledge on the outside place one in the middle of each spindle. This is of course if your children/pets will not bother them. If you want the look but not the hazard of the flame buy those little mini battery tealights and place inside the candle.

2. I've used zipties and those other clear zip ties to hang my garland on my banister railings. But I found a better way to me a few years ago that blends in with the wood stain a little better. I buy the beige pipe cleaners and use those to hang the garland.

3. If you have one of the ornamental iron pieces hanging on the wall get some pretty decent size Christmas balls and some pretty wide ribbon and hang them from it across the bottom. Usually four is enough for a niced size piece. Use one piece of ribbon to hang the ball and another to make a small bow at the top of the ball.

4. To decorate an empty window or a bare wall buy the plain twig wreaths and some pretty wide ribbon and hang them on the wall, three on one wall looks good. Or one in the middle of each window. You can use those 3M Command thingies to hang them. Use one ribbon to hang them and you don't even need a bow on the wreath, plain is simple and yet decorative or one w/ some of the red berries on it. Then another piece of ribbon to make a bow and cover the Command hanger piece. You can hang them all at the same height or the two on the end lower than the middle one.

5. For your Christmas tree instead of using just the regular ribbon buy the large rolls of the open mesh that is available in like 10 yards a bolt in all different colors available. If you have a pretty good sized tree using large and EXTRA large ornaments fills the space really nice and makes it look more "designer" and it takes less.

If you have toddlers or crawlers (yes even the 4 legged ones) and you don't want them on the tree get some really large boxes and put books or bricks in them then wrap them and put around the tree. I did this when my oldest was toddling around to keep her from pullint the tree over on her.

To easily water a fresh cut tree cut the bottom out of an empty 2 liter bottle. Put the neck of the bottle into a piece of PVC pipe at the desired height and insert into your treestand before you decorate. Hide the thing in the branches near the trunk. Now you can water your tree without disturbing the gifts underneath.

You can also water the tree by using your water changing gravel suction tube from your fishtank if you have one. Sorry, don't know the technical name of it I run the tube down the tree along the trunk and just pour water into the gravel sucker part. Tube is clear and you can get it at any petsmart/petco.
