Default Todays question Wednesday 2-27-08

Good morning everyone
Thanks to everyone here I am feeling so much better.
They say getting back to to your normal routine is a good thing so lets get back to work folks

I grew up in Phila but it wasn't until I moved to NJ and was in my mid 20's when I saw the Liberty bell for the first time.
So I though hmmm I know I am not the only one who had done this which led to
Todays question:

Is there something that your hometown, or the area you live in now, is well know for that you took years to see or still haven't seen ?

Today in history:

February 27, 1827 1st Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans
February 27, 2007 The first "daily exercise thread" was posted on CD

Word of the day:

temerarious \tem-uh-RAIR-ee-uhs\, adjective:
Recklessly or presumptuously daring; rash.

Today is National Strawberry Day
it is also
International Polar Bear Day
and
No Brainer Day

First and most important - Welcome back Karla.

I was born and raised in New York. I watched a major landmark being built, and then come down, and never actually took the time to go visit the World Trade Center. I always thought "I have time, it's not going anywhere" and obviously, I could not have been more wrong.

If you've got something in your town that you always wanted to go see, you should take a moment and go see it. You just never know.

Charley

Todays question:

Is there something that your hometown, or the area you live in now, is well know for that you took years to see or still haven't seen ? For us it would have to be the International Hollerin Contest. We lived in the general area for 11 years before actually attending it..and what an hoot it is

February 27, 1827 1st Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans Well, that one was a bit early for me but I have been there a number of times..biggest party I ever went to.
February 27, 2007 The first "daily exercise thread" was posted on CD Happy Birthday exercise thread...or is it happy anniversary

WELCOME BACK KARLA...YOU ARE LOVED MORE THAN YOU CAN EVER IMAGINE!!!!!

Good to see your Question of the Day threads again Karla.

Hmmm.. I'm a native of Phoenix, and in August of 1995, we had a high temperature of 120 degrees (very little or no humidity) On that same day, I got an email from somebody at a company just outside of Portland, OR, who was wondering if I was interested in joining them. I thought about it and figured.. well, at least Oregon's summers are mild. A little over a month later, in early October of 1995, I moved up there, and it was right when the rainy season started, and I liked it. But... 7 months later, after a couple of ice, and snow storms in the winter of 1996, I started wondering "When does it stop raining around here?" - Summer came and that was fun to get out and enjoy the outdoors. I had a 1984 Mustang GT back then, with T-tops and it was certainly fun to drive it around Oregon and Washington without having to run the A/C.

Fall came, and in the middle of November of 1996, we got an ice storm then snow, power in my apartment went out for 3 days, and I had no heat. I was stuck in traffic on an icy road, and that's when I thought, "You know, Phoenix's 115 degrees in July wasn't so bad afterall!" - So I moved back to my hometown in early February of 1997.

Rain, snow, and ice is fine for some people, but I guess being a desert native, I had a hard time getting used to the Pacific Northwest's 7 months of gray skies and constant drizzle. It's beautiful country though, you can't argue with that.

I grew up in NYC, but I believe I was 18 or 19 before I actually took that elevator up to the top of the Empire State Building. I did it with two friends, one from Indiana, and another New Yorker.

We were gobsmacked--utterly astounded--with the vista.

Well I think after my age and for as long as I’ve been relocated here there isn’t anything that I haven’t done or seen in the area. I intend to see Mike next week if things work out, and the only other thing that I haven’t seen or done is a wife swapping club. I haven’t done that yet because I’m worried that she may not want to come back. So I’ll let that pass without checking into it.

The Queen Mary. I see it at a distance, but never have been in the ship. I always wanted to spend the night in the QM Hotel - I hear it's haunted

I grew up on the shores of the St. Lawrence River in Northern New York. Actually, in a house NEAR the shores, just so nobody thinks I was raised by wolves. A beautiful place, with the 1000 Islands nearby. There's a place in those Islands called Heart Island (because it's shaped like - you guessed it - a heart). On it, a castle was built by some rich industrialist back in the 1800's I believe. He built it for his wife, with whom he was madly in love. It was almost finished, when the workers got a telegram from him, stating that his beloved had died and they were to stop work immediately. It was never finished and was deteriorating badly, when the state took it over and started to refurbish it. Now, altho it isn't quite finished, it's a destination spot for weddings, etc. As close as I was to it, I never did get to see it, even tho we docked our boat directly across from it for 2 summers. Maybe when I go back this July for "vacation". Thanks, Karla, for coming up with this one. And for all the time you spend on this and the exercise thread. You're alright, girl.

Welcome back, Karla!!

I grew up in New England, just outside of Boston, and I did not go to some of the historical sites (bunker hill monument, USS Constitution) until about 7 years ago - when I came back to visit family and was living out of state! And, this may be more amazing, I didn't start eating seafood until after I graduated college!

Today is definitely a "no brainer day." Was up until 2am due to a work issue!!!
