That is true. It was rare but now and then a child got sent to the pricipals office as well and spanked and sent home for some major offence. I also had a teacher in the 6th grade that would take a yardstick and smack kids across their hands. I never had it happen but a boy next to me did and I felt so bad for him. He cried and I could tell the teacher had hit him hard. In those days that was ok to do and a parent would not have gotten a teacher or principal fired for doing such a thing if they complained.

Our theatre in the summer would have those all day kids matinees where for a buck parents would dump their kids off at the theatre and they watched cartoons and kids movies all day and then picked them up several hours later.
I remember Ed Sullivan on TV and seeing the Beatles for the first time and girls fainting like crazy in the audience. Remember the test pattern of the Indian head that came on when tv was done for the day or early before it started?
I remember Zero bars, sen sens, candy cigarettes, gum cigarettes with a powdery stuff in the wrapper so you could blow and people really thought you were smoking lol.
During Easter (before people know what dye did to living things) you could buy a colored duck, chick or bunny. I had numerous dyed chicks and could never figure out why the poor things died after a week or two.
I remember during the time of the Cuban Missle Crisis people with money building bomb shelters next to their homes and in school we would have an alarm where we would have to take shelter under our desks. (yeah, like the desk would help!)

I have to say that most apply to me, although I am 34. My parents were 52 and 38 when I was born.
This made me smile. But they never had time to make me lunch, I always bought lunch....
I came in when it was dark..
And now, I am getting ready for work... hoping and praying that all is well in my childrens school today. Hoping no one brings a gun...
They call me the minute they get in the door, Mommy, I am home. We made it home... OK, time to do your homework in 15 minutes, then your chores.
They dont always do the chores, used to, when we were a whole family unit. Not allowed outside if I am not home...
I make their lunch everyday. Unless I look and there is no bread left. My children are some of what I was. Last night, my thirteen yo so, singing I shot the sherriff.. I smiled.
But I did not shooot the depa~u~teeeeeeee!

Sister Mary Mathew didn't need a paddle (I can personally vouch for that) . Hell I think she would have given Floyd Patterson a run for his money

I loved to practice getting under my wooden school desk to avoid being blown up in the impending nuclear attack

The parents of my brother's friend built a bomb shelter. My brother loved it. They had card games every weekend, and no one bothered them.

Another thing I miss are "S & H Green Stamps" or "Plaid Stamps" The supermarkets would give you stamps along with your change. You'd affix the stamps into a special book they gave you. You could redeem merchandise with your books at a "stamp store". I think we bought lawn furniture. Sometimes the powder laundry detergents would contain a drinking glass inside the box. Also gas stations would give away glasses. As a kid I always asked for "Welches Grape Jelly" The empty jar had cartoon characters printed on them. I always liked "The Flintstones" glasses!

OMG, how funny about all of those. I got some file cabinets with my green stamps. I was so proud. And the gas station glasses! My brother still has some of them. These green and textured glasses. Did you know you can still get the little jelly glasses? And also the chess spread glasses.

All my green stamp books went for baby stuff I would go through the catalogs again and again looking at the baby stuff I needed then count and recount my precious stamp books to make sure I had the right amount...Their items were really good stuff
