And when Dad pulled the car up to the gas pumps at the "filling station" the little air hose said "ding ding" then the guys would come out and fill er up, wash the windows and check the oil. All for 39 cents a gallon! And for 10 cents we got the biggest, sourest dill pickle you have ever seen at the "picture show." No plastic garbage bags either. We put the food scraps in yesterdays newspaper and put that in a "grocery sack." need money? Raked leaves mowed lawns and shoveled snow. Get paid to do chores around the house? You must be out of your mind!

Thanks for the memories...only mine go back much farther than most of you...probably farther that any of you.
I have posted a lot of mine on another thread on the same subject.

The other thread is " I'm so old I remember..."

Yes, I vaguely remember colored tp....I don't think it was safe for septic systems. Remember the machines where you could put in a dime (or something), get weighed and read your fortune?

I had heard about the colored paper theory before but always wondered....I think it's a conspiracy...lol

Yes, I haven't thought of colored toilet paper for years, but we had it when I was a kid. My mom always wanted it to match the bathroom decor. LOL

Our fortune machines also gave you your weight. Great for us kids, but mom wouldn't get on it for anything.

Each year on some crisp fall day, we took our skates out of the closet and attempted to skate on uneven pavement of Brooklyn's sidewalks. No knee pads or gloves.
