I never needed to run away because I just knew my parents, the king and queen of some country, were going to reclaim my any day from the peasants they had sent me to live with since birth. I just knew I'd soon be rescued from the squalid hut in which I lived and from the poor peasants (the woman was kind, but the man was a beast) and their nasty daughters!
Until yesterday, I thought I'd run away to Jackson Hole, but after looking at Tet Freek's and Karla's pictures of the underwater world, I think I might run away to Florida or a Caribbean island so I can learn to scuba dive. However, the probity of my heart and mind will keep me home until my daughter goes to college, and I'll have to invite dh to run away with me. A nice long vacation might be the next best thing to running away!
I'll try to find a GI to hug, but I think I'll be busy hugging a bunch of dogs before too long!

on a more sober note------my dad's brother got in an arguement with my grandfather when he was 17. He packed a few belongings and set out up the rairoad tracks just before dark in rural Minnesota.
He was never seen or heard from since.
I know this isn't what this thread is about, but just wanted to share about a "missing limb" in our family tree.

When you were little did you every "run away" ...I ran away just once. I was 6 years old and I ran all the way up the street (about 100 feet) to the dentist's office. When he came out and said "you're next"...I ran back home! Little did I know that my Mom called the dentist cause she could see me from the front porch
Extra credit: If you were to "run away" today where would you go ?..I guess to the furthest place that Auntie Batz, our cat and I could go...Kona!

March 4, 1792 Oranges introduced to Hawaii, they liked it so much they stayed and hung out with the pineapples... thus became orange pineapple juice, huh?
March 4, 1809 Madison becomes 1st president inaugurated in American-made clothes rofl see they had the "red carpet fashion gurus" even back then .. Is that why they named a big street in NYC after him???

I ran away when we lived in Michigan. We lived with my dad's cousin and his wife and she was mean to me. So I hopped on my big bad tricycle and hit the sidewalk. I guess I was around 3 at the time. It didn't occur to me at the time that I was riding in circles around the block! She finally found me and sat me on the stair till my parents came home. Ya know, we moved back South shortly after that...hmmm..
IF I could run away today where would it be???? This past summer I ran away quite a few times to the Coast just to escape the hubba over Toyota moving in. SInce then, that has all died down, and ya know, I live in a home that embraces me and in a community that has finally settled back down to 'normal' so...naaa if I could run away I would go back to Hawaii for Spring break next week making my son happy that we made the trip with his baseball team after all. Oh well, dreams are nice.

Sure, ran away lots of times. didn't get far, just around the block because I wasn't allowed to cross the street without permission.

I never did run away when I was younger. The only one in my family that ran way was my uncle. He ran away when he was 10 or 11 and made it down the street to the gas station and wanted to come back.
