I named my budgie Polly after a parakeet I saw on David Letterman's "Stupid Pet Tricks." The TV Polly got loose and flew up to the lighting grid in the studio. The crew had a time getting her down, but after the next break Letterman announced triumphantly that Polly had been safely returned to her cage. I decided I would name my next bird after her, and I did.

I don't care much for my nickname, but people say it suits me. My mother picked it, so to honor her memory I'll keep it. But in high school I insisted on being called by my real name because I thought it sounded more dignified.

When I was in 5th grade I'd stop at my friend Linda's house on the way to school, and her mother would sometimes make us both piece of raisin toast. That was like heaven to me. Last One:
