I always had a fresh cut tree....and just started about 2 years ago with an artificial one.
My parents use to use trees with the roots, and would plant them in the yard, after the holidays were over. (Wonderful idea!!!)
But, I felt so bad for the trees, and we live in rent, that I just went out, and bought us an artificial one.
I also didn't even try for it to "look like a real one".....because it is NOT.
So, everyone DOES know, it is fake....because it is pure white, and has blue and silver ornaments on it. (Kind of like "Art Deco" style)

Always had a real tree while lived up North, moved South about 14/15yrs ago, and for the past 9 years had artificial. I am one of those crazy loving Christmas people, and so I start decorating early, and the live trees are dead before xmas. very sad. . so it is artificial for now.
But I do buy small xmas trees potted, put on some red bows and then plant them up by my cabin in the nc mountains!
One day hubby would love a xmas tree farm, (yeah right...keep dreaming is all I say)

All the while growing up we had a real tree. Then, somewhere down the line, the prices for those trees went thru the roof and we couldn't afford 'em any more. I remember one Christmas, we waited until Christmas Eve to get a tree and the lot owner still wanted $65.00 for a little 3 footer. Needless to say, we had no tree that Christmas... but that lot owner sure had a lot left over!
The next Christmas, we got an artificial tree.
A few years ago, my folks gave us that artificial tree and we use that. After all these years, it's still one of the best looking fake trees I've ever seen.
Thankfully, we live in pine tree country. We have around 60+ pine trees just on our property. So really, all year 'round I get that wonderful smell! It's just yummy!
For the last 2 years we haven't put up our tree. Why, you ask? 'Cuz we have a little boy kitty that would tear it down in seconds flat. And since most of the ornaments I put on our tree are antique... I'm not willing to risk him breaking them. So we put up decorations in the house.. just no tree for a bit; until he acts like a adult and not a kitty that should be wearing a helmet!

That's the dilemma we were facing, when we got a new puppy......and decided not to have a x-mas tree that year.
However, up to this day, my Christmas tree looks kind of like only "half done", because the bottom part is not decorated, but the top half is.....because of our 2 dogs playing with ornaments.
I don't have any antique ornaments, but just the thought of them glass ones breaking and our 2 rascals getting hurt, is reason enough for me to have a "cockeyed" tree....LOL.

I have an artificial tree, I don't want to go through the trouble of cleaning up the mess a real tree makes, then disposing of it.

Bah, humbug!!!!!!
Artificial, and only because SHE MAKES ME PUT IT UP.
Before you get all google-eyed: I lost my Christmas spirit the year my mother died. Haven't found it yet. Don't plan on looking.

Tek Sorry bout your mom.
We use artificial. I cannot cut something down to celebrate then throw it away.
I love the potted idea... Do you plant them in your own yard later or donate them?
I might just develop a new tree tradition.

Before we moved to the 'country', we had bought a White Pine in a pot and that was our Christmas Tree for that year. We brought it out to the place were we would later build our home and planted it behind the home site. It just never grew very much. Too many oak trees around it. So, after about 4 years we moved it to the front of our home and it is now about 60+ feet tall!!! Just needed it's own special place. We had read where and how to plant the tree, but I'm sure the directions must have been wrong. It's a beauty now.

Aww... Sorry to hear that. I don't celebrate Easter, as that's the last time I saw my Grandpa before he passed away (died as the result of a surgeon's horrendous mistake). I was 13 when that happened and he was my everything, so I can understand how holiday's are affected by things like that. And don't allow any one to make you feel bad for your Humbug'ishness.
MB2... we tried that the first year and discovered he's a climber! Helooks so inncocent as he's laying here next to me sleeping, but in all honesty, he can go from sweet and innocent to makin' your head spin in frustration in seconds. Perhaps next year he'll be a tad more calmer. Riiiiight! <--- wishful thinking!
