MoMark..I in no way wanted to castigate your comments. I enjoy your posts too much and would, indeed, have a hard time parting with them! I meant no offense.

I can totally understand anyone's not wanting to give up some really neat "hi-tech" stuff, but they can all be replaced.
When you mentioned personal items that belonged to family you care about, that's different. Those can never be replaced nor the memories or history associated with them.
Interesting!
I was joking about the tv, blackberry, and the laptop; they all can be easily replaced but my grandpa's watch and the Luger cannot, I truly value those. You probably didn't detect my sarcasm, it's a bit hard to convey that over the internet.

Just a slight misunderstanding.

Besides the living people and pets in my home, photos and camcorder tapes. I had to evacute for a fire in 2003 and that is all I grabbed besides all of my sons (then 2 months old) clothes and stuff he needed like diapers, etc. I went thru each room of my house and asked the question, "can I live without that?" Kinda sad but I realized that none of it was important. I really wanted to take all of my cd's too Luckily the house is still here.

Not including living things, I'd have to take my violas. I have two of them... one is an 1800s German-made instrument, which I keep mainly for sentimental & investment reasons. The other is a new-ish Chinese viola, which is more suitable for performing (louder/bigger sound).

I would also want my photos, which are a combination of hard-copy (old-fashioned, lol) and digital... so I guess that would require taking my computer too. And since it's impossible to choose just 2 things, I'm also throwing in the jewelry box!!

My late Grandma's Bible. Old and tattered from reading and praying for her family every night her entire adult life.

My mother's sewing box and it's contents - she LOVED to sew for us girls when we were growing up; and her name pin from her work. She was wearing it on the Friday evening she was driving home from work and a 22 year-old drunk driver hit and killed her. She was only 43 years old. I have many of her belongings and would never, ever part with any of it.

I'm so sorry to hear that. How awful for you and your family.

My Mom had a sewing box and I remember as a child how much I loved sitting beside her, watching her sew and looking through all the colorful spools of thread and shiny buttons. Thank you for reminding me of something I'd forgotten completely!
