I remember those screeching signals, too.

Also TV test patterns.

I remember before zip codes we had postal zones. They were usually a one or two digit number. Also the phone numbers with a word for a prefix. Our first phone--early 1940's--was 5 digits. Next was a word followed by 4 digits. After that we had a word and 5 digits. Same phone and same address--they just had to give us a new phone number as they ran out of old phone numbers.

  • playing my parent's LPs on a "record player" (enclosed like a suitcase)
  • Nancy Drew mysteries
  • putting playing cards on my bike tires, held on by clothes pins, to sound cool
  • oh, then: clothespins
  • wonderful polished wood floors in my elementary school
  • no AC

When I first moved to this rural area in 2002, I had a RR___, Box ___ address. The road didn't even have a name. Then it was changed the next year to a 5 digit number and the road was given a name. People in the area still don't know the names of the two "streets" in the tiny hamlet where I lived then. They still call it by the name of the town it once was and refer to the names of the few people left there to identify which house.

When Preachers worked for living just like the people in the congregation- I guess preachers have forgotten that Paul worked and preached the gospel.

We're talking over 40 yr's ago. When the cost of most things of today, was 10+ X's less back then.

The Bra burning era, was called "Womens Liberation" aka "Womens Lib".

If only we(men) had(portable) video cameras back then..
