And they were teased if their hair got too long.

I remember my first pair of long pants. Girls were always dressed in dresses.....maybe shorts in summer for playwear but dresses the rest of the time. Man, was that wind cold when it blew up you skirt.

Penny candy.....oh what a treat!

Hard sour green apple, Bazooka bubble gum, paper straws with the sour powder/candy.....just about anything.

And those funny wax "candy" things: wax lips, wax tiny bottles filled with some bizarre sweet liquid. Then Halloween came and it was: long wax fingernails. LOL. (well these were not penny, but..)

Oddly I went on this tangent that Luden's cherry cough drops were the best "candy" so usually had those around. But they cost more.

Speaking of cough drops......

Another OTC medication was those nasal inhalers that contained benzedrine.

I had a Cher barbie doll when I was little..my friend was jealous and cut up her pink dress, cut her hair and wrote all over it with a black marker..then she blamed her niece..I was so sad...

Oh Im so old I remember when I had short hair.
