I remember when diners used to have more jelly and jam flavors like apple, quince, and elderberry.

Talking about playing with Mercury... every kid played with mercury in my day... that was before silly putty.

Wow! In the city square? Where was that? I remember sugar canes being ground in a round area with a hitch pole that reached out to the edge. However, I can't remember if they were using a small tractor or a mule. That was about 1958 or 59. Also, this was on a cane farm.

And yes. My family did raise cane back then.

The gasoline smell on shoes thread reminded me that I am old enough to remember when gasoline actually smelled good.

I used to purposely stand downwind while filling a car just to smell the gasoline. Then too, I also played with mercury. I guess I'm lucky to still be alive.

O the smell was so great...
I also drank directly from the creek... Davey Crockett drank from the creek.. just shove the algae off to the side.. This is when DDT was being used for crops...

You forgot about playing with things that went " BOOM"

Yep! It didn't matter that a cow or two were standing just upstream. I still occasionally play with things that go "boom." I also played hide and seek in the thick DDT fog wafting behind the mosquito control trucks.

Someone's looking out for me I guess.

I remember walking a cloud of DDT as my grandfather dusted his vegetable crops.
