Not only am I so old I remember the quad music but I still have a quad recorder, another quad 8 track payback unit, and yet another reel to reel quad recorder. All Akai and Panasonic equipment,,,,, I also have 8track tapes for continued play no rewind. I’d love to sell the stuff and get it out of the house, or trade it for old dollar bills.

I think too there was some promise in the "Quad" sound, except for one thing...cost. I don't remember (that was over 35 years ago) that we had any special broadcast equipment, just the records and tapes, but you needed special decoding equipment to receive the 4 channels. And then, they didn't seem to be 4 distinct channels, more of a simulated separation, kind of like the reverb units in the cars (older brother had one of those). I don't know about other parts of the country, but here in NWOH, I think the thrifty reputation that the farmers of German heritage had really reduced the demand. We dropped it about a year after our first such broadcast.

A quarter!??!!!! What, were you rich or something? I used a penny; sometimes two. A quarter (which was my allowance for the whole week!) got me into the neighborhood rec center pool for the day, and two candy bars afterward.

I'm so old that I actually remember when real estate is affordable. I know that is a crackpot statement but I'll explain. Around 1974 growing up in the Denver area I was a 24 year old commercial construction hand making $7.00 an hour. Buying a brand new car was doable. Bought a '74 Plymouth Sebring Plus -$4400.00 list. Financing was doable. Lived in a nice 2 bedroom apartment in Englewood-rent $125.00. Very doable. Looked at property at Washington Park area (nice area of Denver) 2, maybe 3 bedroom homes in the upper 20's. What I'm trying to say is an average working stiff making OK money despite being a basic working stiff could actually make a living and could actually live the American dream. I'm so old, but not old enough to forget that not that many years ago things were reachable. What the @&*! happened to us?

I remember when you could tell a car's year, make, and model immediately at sight. I saw a '54 Ford yesterday and still knew immediately it was a '54 Ford. It wasn't a Chevy or Buick or Pontiac. Nowdays so many of the cars look alike. It's hard to tell what's what. Maybe I just paid more attention back then.

That is sooo true! And if you had any doubt, you could always look at the tail light lens for the car's year of manufacture. It was best to do this when looking at parked cars only, though.

I remember when the opening to put gas in was under your back license plate often. I also remember when many gas stations would give you free antennea toppers, like Union 76' and their orange ball. Gas stations use to also give away free maps.
