Wow, that hurts to read. How did things get so out of whack?

I remember going with my friends on Halloween (no adults) walking miles and filling up a pillowcase full of candy and never worrying about someone trying to hurt us.
I remember when coke was highly carbonated and if you were to drink them as one does today you would have puked.
I remember finding a penny was exiteing and you could buy something with it.

Kind of a bittersweet day today with the remembering. My mom had a stroke a couple of months ago and it has become apparent that she will never be able to return to her own apartment, so today we were over packing things and moving it to storage to go through as we have time...so the "rememberings" kind of overflowed. Just the other day I was thinking about the small cast iron skillet we had for frying eggs, I think three was all it would hold. It always had grease in it. When it cooled enough we would just set it on the back burner or put it in the oven, and when it was time to fry an egg we would just put it on the hot burner, and when the grease was hot enough we would put in the eggs. This afternoon, my sister was in the kitchen and all of a sudden yelled out "Here's the egg pan." Try to keep a skillet out like that now days. I guess I will be doing a lot of remembering, because I was entrusted with ALL the pictures to bring home and scan and share. Gonna try to put together a DVD for her 85th birthday in 2 weeks.

By the way, I posted earlier about the "Raleigh Man" who came around with his spices and medicines, etc. We found one of the old catalogs from him. I actually don't remember this one, it was from before my time. It was printed in German!

Default I'm So Old, I Remember.......

.........when just about everything on the Big Three TV networks started each program announcing that they were "IN COLOR". Ah, those were the days.

Ah!, but my husband remembers when his family was the first in the neighborhood to have a TV. He says the neighbors came over to catch the news, and watch the few programs that came on afterwards.

I remember when we got our first color TV -- a 19" on a rolling stand. I was thrilled! I could come home from school, for lunch, and watch Dark Shadows, I thought, only to realize it was still black-and-white.

Got just what I deserved for thinking my family 'was-all-that-and-a-bag-of-chips' as my daughter says today.

I remember mom had a cup on the top of the stove for grease; she would cook whatever and pour the grease into the cup, then when she needed it for the eggs (etc) she would take it from that cup.
