And they'll say "these were the good old days" ????
Oh,,, the good old days! I remember the dime stores years ago, and then the good old 99cent stores where you could buy things for under a dollar. What happened to those good old days?

Recall the good ole 5c-10c stores in 1930-40's. Calif. today has a chain of .99c stores in So Cal where everything is less then a Dollar, and they BUSY..BUSY. So, they are here and have been for over 25 yrs plus that I'm aware of. Steve

I rememborie the 'rag' man coming through our neighborhood. And the knife sharpener man. Each pushing their individual carts with all of their wares and sing-songing their skills or needs for all to hear.

Does anyone remember the green stamp stores? Each time you bought something from them they gave you stamps and then once you collected enough of them, you could use them to buy other things?
We had one in Texas and they used to give me the stamps to stick on the pages they handed out.

Oh yes! I have lots of good items that I would not have had otherwise. I wish it was still being done, espacially if the merchandise was still as good as it was then. We also had Gold Bond stamps.

Here in West Concord,Ma. we have a very old store called the Five and Dime Store. They sell everything you could imagine, well maybe not everything but it's really cool to have an old fashioned store still going strong although nothing costs five or ten cents!
In regard to garters....it was a normal thing to have in the late sixties. I was given a pair by a friend for my 13 birthday..they weren't the slutty garters, they were part of a panty. Can you imagine having your daughter being given garters at 13 now!!

In St. Louis we had the S and H Green Stamps stores. Would save the stamps in the books and trade these books for items. I still have an electric clock in my kitchen that must be about 45 years old! Still works. . Also at one time had an exercise bike. It's long gone tho'.

I am so old, I remember what it meant to drive from Detroit to "Up North" before I-75 was built.
I am so old, I know the Beatles were not Paul's first backup band.
I am so old, I can remember what Orlando was like before DisneyWorld was built. (My students think I am really ancient! LOL)
I am so old, I can remember when Soupy Sales was a local program on WXYZ-TV in Detroit. Remember White Fang?
I am so old, I can not only remember the Good Humor Man, I can remember when a popsicle sold for .07. Ever notice that computers do not have a cents sign on the keyboard?
I am so old, I can remember gas for .29 a gallon.
I am so old, I can remember when you had to wait for ten minutes for the bubbles to pop so you could drink a Vernor's Ginger Ale; and even then it still tickled your nose and made you sneeze!
I am so old, I can remember Milky the Twin Pines Clown and his show on TV. Those scary marionettes used to give me nightmares!
I am so old, I can remember when going into outer space was a newsworthy event.
