My husband is in the military and while in the Marines, they did shovel their food. But being the son of a doctor, he had been taught manners prior to this experience. He NEVER ate that way at home.
Now in the Air Force, we actually attend functions were manners are held in high regard.

Well I grew up working commercial fishing boats, 6 years military, and 20 years oilfeild. Each and every one of those occupations never allowed much time for meals. That could very well be the reason why I shovel at times. Should I seek couseling?

When I waited tables, I would never take the plates away until everyone was finished...unless they asked me to.

Tulegirl-my s-i-l's stepson was just promoted (AF) to E9 and prior to induction dinner had a week long class in table etiquette-one thing they were told was never finish everything on your plate at these functions-if still hungry eat when you return home.

That makes me crazy. DS leaves 2-3 bites of food all of the time - all it means to me is I get to scrape his plates before loading the dishwasher.

I think you will be ok with out it. My son does the shoveling thing sometimes. I fuss at him to no avail. Maybe we should just tell your mommy on you. LOL.

Foul language
One of my pet peeves is when someone uses foul language. I was riding the city bus to church the other day and some guy was using foul language while talking on the cell phone. Hearing someone talk on the cell phone is already annoying, let alone hearing someone use foul language.
