This would be a question for almost any forum and wish I could poll them all but duplicate posts are prohibited so you 'guys' are the 'lucky' ones.
So many times subsequent posts by an OP change or modify the original one but some replies prove responding posters didn't read anything more than the first post.
For instance, the first post by the OP might be asking "What should I do?" and later posts modify the complaint or even tell us what they did do.
This is really obvious with threads that were started years ago but I'm directing this more to some of the 'regulars" on here.
I try to always answer without reading the thread. To me it's a way of narrowing in on a very specific question. Many times when a poster isn't getting the affirmation that they sometimes want they begin to shift the narrative of the thread. It's like hitting a moving target to me.

It depends on how long the thread is. If it’s only one page, maybe I’ll read the whole thing, but I don’t think it’s necessary to read an entire thread before responding.
How much do you read after the OP?
This would be a question for almost any forum...
It's been my experience that MOST threads are done by the end of the first page.
Any coherent/serious question will be answered within the first few posts.
A poorly phrased or rambling incoherent OP... might require a second page to sort that out.
My visiting habits here are erratic. Threads can explode in a matter of hours, so when I stop by every few days as I sometimes do, I;m liable to fall hopelessly behind long threads.
I do typically look at the last page or two to see where the thread has gone, or seemed to. If that's all I've done, I usually start by saying I've only scanned the thread, or only read the OP.
So a 3 or 4 page thread, I will often scan and sometimes read. Much more than that and I'll take an admitted shortcut.
None of the above. It depends how much time I have when I'm looking at a thread. Maybe I'm just online for a few minutes to break up the workday. Then I'll probably just reply. If a thread is very long, I may not read all the replies and just reply again. If it's only a page or two of posts, I'll probably read it all.

Many threads go off the rails in terms of sticking directly with the op, usually after a page or so it's morphed into something else.
