nothing too worry about!
Okay the chances of being in a fatal plane crash is 1 in 11,000,000. The chances of being in a car crash is 1 in 5000. So there is really not much to worry about. I fly very often, usally during the summer. But everytime I do there is always the idea in my mind of what can happen! But just think happily.
The closest to a crash I have been in was in the summer of 06. Delta Airlines from Cinncinati to Amsterdam. We had a delay because of some "problems" with the plane. But after waiting 1 hour we boarded. Then right before taxi, the airplane turned off, we had to wait 30 minutes for a mechanic to fix the problem. As we were flying over the atlantic ocean, all I had in my mind was we will fall or it will turn off. But all in all everything was ok! Nothing to worry about. Even if you are in a plane crash you have a 98% chance of staying alive.
ps- There is a statistic that states that you must fly everyday for 28 years to be involved in some plane "crash." And you have a 98% survival rate. So really nothing to worry about. Just fall asleep on the flight and before you know it your at your destination!
Hope this helps!

I LOVE to fly but my biggest fear is that I'd be at the airport when my ship came in...

I have been flying since I was two days old. I used to fly from Boston to LA in the summer as a child all on my own. Later my Father opened two travel agencies which gave me the benefits of low price or free travel.
I have been on some VERY rough rides, I have been knocked off my feet from turbelence so hard and thrown around so hard even I, a well seasoned traveler thought I would loose my lunch.
I love to rush of taking off, thats my favorite part. I could never live without flying although I don't do it so much now.

My worst flights have been on overbooked red eye flights from the west Coast . Never fails I will have the middle seat between a woman with a child in her lap, and one of her sever family members all speaking a different language and I am sure wondering why a mother would bring a baby with an ear infection on a flight. I have had two of those.
I was on a flight out from Atlanta that had a medical emergency. A young and healthy looking man had a heart attack. I watched as the best flight attendants I have ever seen saved his life. The flight returned to Atlanta and several hours later took off for the West Coast again. I knew I would have missed my connecting flight which after the experience of seeing how good the crew was I was more than willing to over look. They on the other hand had arranged a jet to meet us and fly the ten or fewer passengers on to our final stop. I can’t mention their name on here, but they are my first choice to fly on any trip I take. It was the flying experience of my life time.
To keep you from over stressing, I have read 56% of all passengers involved in an air plane crash survive. We seem to only hear about the bad crashes. The article I read said just pay attention to the safety rules, and your odds are even better than 50-50 in a crash. Makes it a whole lot safer than highways.

Chicago Midway is a pretty good airport but from what I have noticed, the weather patterns in that area are just NOT GOOD.
Salt Lake City and Denver are also two airports that I have never had a soft reasonable landing in. Salt Lake City is surrounded by mountains, they sort of have to drop down into a valley to land there and its ALWAYS rough. There is also alot of turbelence I assume because of the mountains and altitude in Denver. It usually feels like the plane fell out of the sky and bounced on the runway in Denver.
One of my favorite runways (NOT) is runway 9 in Boston. Its surrouned on three sides by water. It looks like the plane is going down into the bay when your landing on it. I saw at least one accident where the plane went off the end of the runway, skidding on ice. GOOD TIMES. When I fly into Boston, I always have a drink or two before landing to take the edge off.

Back in the late 1980’s I had had my first flight into Hong Kong. It was prior to the new air port and as you fell into the flight pattern and lost altitude you noticed the path was between rows of sky scrapers which, I was looking up to see. Great view of peoples apartments, but still gave me the creeps.

I know a retired Air Canada pilot who once told me that Hong Kong in the old days was always an interesting landing. You could "pick the clothes off the lines" that were hanging from those apartments.

I've flown on my flight simulator into Hong Kong's old airport, and yes it is a challenge to land a Boeing 737-400 (medium-sized airliner), let alone a very large Boeing 747-400 jumbo jet.
