Becoming an MD isn't easy, but it's not a guarantee that the person is of extremely high intelligence. I believe it means they are reasonably intelligent, have an excellent ability to remember things, and can make a commitment to achieve a goal that won't produce immediate rewards. High intelligence I would reserve for those getting a PhD, where you must generate original thought.

Someone mentioned doctors never working by trial and error, and I don't believe that is correct. I'm not saying you have doctors randomly taking shots in the dark for the heck of it, but sometimes you do have to try things you're not positive about. I'm thinking of emergency doctors as I write this.

Now, I believe attorneys are overrated when it comes to public opinion. It's odd that they get respect and are vilified at the same time. Many attorneys are very intelligent, but to get a law degree, it's largely a game of endurance. To be a good attorney, however, requires more than that.

I do believe doctors and attorneys are a bit overrated, but they do provide a much needed service to people. In those professions, you'll find people of moderate intelligence and those of very high intelligence.

My vote for most overrated goes to all of the celebrities, be they sports stars or stage and film stars. These are the people who get vaulted to hero status for things that generate little good for mankind.

This is my opinion also. They are so overrated, so overpaid, and so overhyped. They are nearly worshiped for crying out loud. It's disgusting.
