Most overrated profession
I say Medical Doctor.
What's so smart about following a flow chart for Crissakes? I guess knowing Gray's Anatomy like the back of your hand is the tricky part.
But aren't car mechanics merely flow chart followers as well? What texts have they read to gain their expertise? My sense is they get their learnin' on the street, by word of mouth, trial and error.
MDs and car mechanics... Both wear a smock. One's dirtied by dirt; the other, blood. Both wear pocket protectors with weird implements jutting up out of their pockets.
I'm not seeing much difference. Well, maybe the MDs have better social graces and haircuts.

Does that mean you'll be making an appointment at Jiffy Lube instead of the doctor's office next time you feel a pain you can't explain?

If your making a Medical profession sound easy, then why not go for it? The pay is great, and there will always be demand.

If you think becoming or being an MD is so easy -- go for it.

I haven't the time for the sterile mundanities of science. Nor the hubris. But that wasn't the point of the post. I quite enjoy my livelihood; am content with my income level.
Don't get me started on lawyers, bankers, business and financial types...
Architects, engineers, designers, farmers, teachers, artisans, philosophers, scholars, creators: underrated.

Medicine is definitely one of the most respected professions in my book. I have special admiration for surgeons who have to constantly improvise under the prospect of having someone's life in their hands. Repairing the human body is no small task and usually requires great ingenuity.

I'd say physicians are the most overrated. They spend as much time doing paperwork as anything else. Some are super smart, some aren't. What do you call the guy who graduates at the bottom of his med school class? Doctor.
Sure, some of them save lives. Some of them spend all day looking at snotty nosed kids. It doesn't require great ingenuity--it requires knowing a few procedures really well and doing them over and over again. Plenty of other people in other professions save lives too, but they don't expect people to cowtow.

Doctors in the bottom 10 percent of the class are the idiots that flunked out of the profession and are now working at insurance companies telling real doctors and hospitals how long you are allowed to stay in a hospital and for what you can be treated.
Doesn't that just scare the bejeezus out of you?

MD's due have much more liability as evidenced by insurance premiums paid.
I know a few Docs that now work as Nurses because they had great patient skills and poor business skills to run a office and manage people.
Many Docs do not encourage their kids to follow in their footsteps unless one happens to be particularly driven...
So, I wouldn't say it is anywhere near the most over rated
