Now that I have your attention... I have heard ( alright read) that some of you are on other forums..Soo without giving a link , how do they measure up to this one, as far as user features, moderation, etc..

Thanks to tabbed browsing, of course we do. I've got a local city one, a state one, a sports one, there's a couple newspaper ones...

City-Data is the Grand Daddy of them all and the Referece to The World of forums. I'm not just @** blanking here. It's true.

City-Data runs a tight ship and it seems to be for a reason. The other places are too lax and it results in too much trolling and hi-jacking and no accountability.

So those who are fortunate enough wind up here most of the time.

City-Data gives us what we crave; Bandwidth, information, and entertainment.

Prior to finding CD I was in a few of my former states forum but the name-calling, inane comments got to be too much.

People here are helpful, fun and beyond friendly-what more do you need?

Before I joined City Data in late May of 200, I was on two different forums, one local in the Phoenix area (AZFamily.com) for a TV station, and the other was for a newspaper in the so-called "The Inland Empire", which is San Bernardino and Riverside Counties about 50 miles east of Los Angeles (PE.com) They took out the many features, so I wasn't too happy with them because it got to be a hassle to post messages. The website and the forums were managed by one company that handled web services for many clients, including the two I mentioned. MotorMaker was also a member of PE.com, and he directed me to City-Data, which I found to be much better than the others.

I'm also a member on 2 aviation forums, and 2 forums for gun enthusiast, which I visit 3 or 4 a month.

We had a forum like that here also in Arizona (AZCentral.com), which I was also a member of up until August of 2005. The website is still running, but the forums were shut down because of the same reasons you mentioned. Name-calling and things of that nature. On a few instances, few different members agreed to meet at designated places to duke it out! I believe AZCentral shut it down because they didn't want to be liable for any injuries, or worse, that may result from 2 or more people trying to settle their differences with violent means.

the other forums I visit are about guitar,firearms and things that I would not be allowed to discuss on this forum,at least in plain language.

MM-yes I've seen that on the 2 states I lived in! People don't discuss they cuss it out and call each other vile names. And yes-they've sometimes "called each other out".

The ones I go to are topic related such as "investing" and "technical." While this forum has both of these categories, they do not deal with the true substance of the topics... they may want to -- but can not because of the general population that posts here. I am not putting this forum down mind you.
