The only time I ever screen calls is when political groups call and ask me for donations. A few years ago, I made a donation to one or two organizations, forgot which ones, then not long after that, other affiliates started calling me and asking me for money! It got so bad at one point, I was getting 3 or 4 calls a week! The one unique thing about their calls is, which makes them easy to screen, when you pick up the phone, there's about 3 seconds of silence before somebody starts talking. I don't get too many calls from such organizations anymore because I asked most of them not to call me, and I tell them that I'll vote in November!
My name and address is still out there because once in a while, I'll get a call like that, and when I hear the brief silence, I either wait and tell them not to call me, or hang up.

Thats because its a recording. Most telemarketers, organizatons and collectors these days will use the pre-recorded message rather than have someone get hostile with them over the phone, this way they cant hear what the person is saying.
I have an answering machine and if we had a landline here (we all have cellphones) would still be using it. Meanwhile, theres simply caller ID and we dont answer blocked or unfamaliar numbers. The way we see it here is if they are important enough, they will leave a message.
As for the pizza day, give me everything, including the anchovies!!

If I didn't screen my calls, I'd have a closet full of Septic Helper, because their salesman is so good, we always end up buying another case. Now, when I see Miller Plante come up on the ID, I know not to answer! It's saving me a bundle.

I have what is probably a very dumb question but here goes.
How do you guys that don't have landlines, have internet? I have whatever that Bell South fast internet service thing is called (not dialup) but I still need a telephone # and a telephone line/connection.
Do you have it through cable (i.e. Comcast) and don't need a phone line or how does it work?
BTW, I used to have it through Comcast but it got very expensive so I switched and even if I pay $20/mth for the phone line, it's still cheaper than going through the cable company.

You dont have to have a landline to have internet. Theres basic cable, satellite, and broadband. Heck, you can even have DSL and not have a home phone, though the phone company will try their best to tell you its not possible but I know two people who have exactly that: DSL without the landline.

I screen the calls. Sometimes I just let the answering machine grab it. I like quiet evenings because I'm on the do not call register.
National scoop the poop week ... hmmm ... I wish several of my neighbors would celebrate this! BTW: I found biodegradable poop bags! I'm getting greener!

I screen the calls. Unfortunately not all who call have caller ID but I can see the people I know when they call. So, my in-laws don't have a caller ID. If I don't see a number I just don't answer the phone. Easy for me...

I don't have Caller ID and I very seldom screen my calls. I have regestered with the Nation Do Not Call folks and I can count on 1 hand the call we have received from telemarketers and politial folks. They are politely informed that their call is unwelcome.

About caller I.D. again. May get it someday. Have my landline number on some of the riders on the for sale signs so I do get calls from unknown parties at times. And even tho' my cell phone has caller I.D. I still answer, might be an interested buyer!!!
Got a kick out of a few posts: people that don't do the pooper scooper thing is their 'pet peeve' ......Funny...lol
