If you lay down with dogs you rise up with fleas.
My Dad was a minister and always had a few sayings like these to share.
When my sister would come home for the holidays there was always a fight. My Dad would say:
She is like a bull in a china closet.
Another cat one:
As nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rockers.
A day late and a dollar short.
He doesn't have both oars in the water.
If the Lord is willing and the creek don't rise.
My grandmother used to say this one of my sister. She was a little scattered.
Like a chicken with its head cut off.
On more then one occasion they would describe my driving this way.
Like a bat out of hell.
Like a duck on a june bug.

She's limber as a dishrag.
Nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full o' rocking chairs
Sorry as a two dollar watch
Tougher than a one eared alley cat
Older than the mountains and got twice as much dust.

I have always loved this one. Thanks for reminding me. I also wanted to thank johnrex62 and Tek_Freek for their explanation of the girl built better than a brick outhouse. I mean, I get she's got some ka-choong-ahs and all, but your discussion helps.
And lastly, Gemkeeper, I'm thinking DIL must be dumber 'n linguini.

I remember when I was little and my Grandmother would come out with one of these, I would quiz her about them. Like "like a chicken with its head cut off", she told me that the body gets up and runs around aimlessly once you cut its head off.
"God willing and the creek don't rise"
If you've ever lived in Texas, you know the signficance of this one, in the Spring this can be the literal truth. We also had a few low water bridges that you better be on the right side of when the water rises.
