In general, I think the more anonymous a person is online, the easier it is to be rude. I have the same user name on many forums and almost always include at least one of my websites in my profile. It's my way of keeping my own tongue in check here and on other forums.

I haven't been up on this for very long, thus cannot comment on how things were compared to now. Recently, someone basically told all responders that they weren't nice, because they didn't understand what her request was. It was unclear what she wanted and it was a really, really, really, really obscure topic. We all have bad days and maybe can be prone to untoward nastiness in a public forum, especially since it's anonymous. I know I've had my nose bent out of shape from misreading things. Anyway, I'm babbling, but I think maybe there is discord in the air.

I think there are people called trolls on here sometimes. They will post outrageous things just to get a response, then attack the person who posts the response. I ran into one on the Western North Carolina forum who had everybody apologizing to her or I suspect him. It didn't take long for me to realize that somebody was just playing with us. So I had fun. I will be as nice as can be to someone honestly looking for information, but don't ask me if there are lights on all the roads in the mountains. Please!

People who are unhappy in their location post on here to vent their feelings, not to be verbally beaten up by insensitive clods.
Is there something in the water or just general frustration in the country about the economy, etc.? Or are people becoming more rude and mean-spirited in general? Is it because so much of our population is relocating that areas are no longer as they were just a few years ago and this creates anxiety in the transplants, as well as the locals.
Just wondering what everyone's thoughts on the subject are...

I think you are right. And I think there are an awful lot of very young ( in age) posters who enjoy dissing the older folk. They can't get by with in in 'real life', but they can here as long as they don't get 'erased'. Naturally there are some older ( in age) posters who do the same.

Trolls come in and are quickly booted out..I have been here for over a year and have seen people who seemed "nasty" at first turn out to be pretty good posters after all ..I have observed that the real trouble makers eventually move on..As far as the very young posters here..I love em . They are forming opinions based on what they observe in the world about them and they keep me young..None have ever shown me any disrespect

I have wondered about that since I found this site. Just some of the name calling and bickering is a bit much. I was on a Florida one yesterday, and it was very mean to the OP. It appeared the moderator then closed the thread over the comments. I have seen someone that found things about the area they lived in as not appealing. The moderator sent a reply that the freeway went both ways and leave. I mean some of these comments are so insensitive there is no need of it. If someone doesn't care for something that doesn't give anyone the right to beat them up on here.

As a "viewer" of forums prior to joining I have only encountered one negative poster in a year.
I enjoy the young posters as well as us "seasoned" posters.
The mods do a wonderful job and deserve our thanks.
