Google now has 'street maps' of various cities. Not just for travel. For other information also. Click here: Google Maps see if you can find your street

Some of the newer features come in handy. I like the “satellite” view at times and also the “on the street” views of larger cities. Again,,, in larger cities they even have the traffic conditions now being seen. You can see in my backyard if you look closely.
The last time I was in Las Vegas I used the satellite view and also the street view to see just where the hotel as and what it looked like so I’d be familiar with seeing it when I drove into town last year. It made things much easier because I could find the covered parking garage entrance and knew just how to get there from the direction I was driving in.

Real men use roadmaps and get lost several times before they ask for directions. I think GPS was invented by a woman just to drive men crazy with telling them which way to turn all the time.
I like my roadmap in the backseat and I’ll “fold” it when I’m finished using it. Leave me alone I already know where I’m going and where I’m at. Just telling me that I should have taken that last exit isn’t going to get me back to it, I’m taking a shortcut with less traffic. It’s a little further is distance but I can make better time with less traffic ~ trust me.

We use the yahoo map and yes, Ive looked up a lot of places where we used to live. Really amazing! In fact, we use it in looking at addresses of houses we are going to look at, to rent. I dont use mapquest, the worst there is.

Some of the street views and sattlelite images are dated more than 2 years or more but it is helpful for use on this forum.
I had one member ask me what some local cylinder looking things was near her neighborhood so I used satelite image to figure where it was and went to investigate it was a treatment plant.

Mine is named "Cletus" he sort of a smart alleck direction giver. He will say stuff like You might want to make a left turn just a suggestion, I hate to tell you but you are going the wrong way, Do a U turn no one will see you, You might want to make a right turn I know from experience, How about that you done got where you are going"

Mine allows me to choose fastest route, or shortest route, or avoid certain roads or highways.
Most of the time it pretty accurate. A few times it has created arguments with me and Pookie.
I remember this one time we was traveling to a hotel and it said turn left and I knew for fact we would have to turn right because I could see the hotel on the right side.

I am way too old-school to be on this thread. I still navigate by the sun and the lay of the land. But I commend you all!

You are not alone square peg. I still use these fan folded things called maps! (oh the horrors of them - especially when you try to fold them back up).
Ok, I lied, sort of. While I still used paper maps in my car, I don't have a GPS, but I do use google, mapquest and MLS maps to get satellite views of property when I am searching for homes for my customers. It can be very useful to see what's surrounding a property - like big high tension electric lines, etc.
