High Gas Prices -- Should we be suprised
I personally can't seem to find anyone here talking and/or discussing much about these high gas prices. I drive a small sedan. I use to be able to fill up on $25-$30 bucks now I'm paying anywhere from $45-$50 to gas up and that's weekly...I have a long drive to work everyday from near OIA to Winter Park and this is ridiculous. That's almost double the cost when you look at it on an annual basis, I know -- I've done the math.
If we keep on this course a gallon of gas will eventually cost more than the minimum wage. Something is deathly wrong and their's plenty of blame to go around. Politicians keep sounding off on alternative options from Solar this, or Nuclear that but until we start doing something about it these prices are gonna be here to stay & other crap is gonna follow but of course I may be just preaching to the choir. Am I the only one pissed off with what's going on here????

Maybe some people have just resigned themselves to these high prices and aren't saying much, but I know that my husband and I are plenty ticked off, and it is a regular topic of conversation between us. Sometimes when I'm pumping gas, I'll comment on it to somebody pumping next to me, and they are always in agreement about how outrageous it is. Our truck now costs about 100 to fill up, and that really hurts, plus the fact that it only gets about 15 mpg!

I agree w/you here but who knows they could have bought the truck before gas prices sky-rocketed like they did. You do realize it's awfully difficult for these SUV drivers to get rid of their vehicles, although, if I drove one I'd be trying hard as hell to unload it.

It really does hurt our pockets too, however, we have done things to counteract the effects of higher gas prices. For example, we cut down on eating out and also shop for off name brands when we go grocery shopping. It really helps. I am not happy about the price but I am resolved to deal with it the best way I know how while trying not to sacrifice quality of life.

Fnix, we are not stupid. We bought this truck back in February 2006 before the gas prices started to escalate out of control. Actually, I tried to talk him out of it, even though the prices were pretty reasonable back then, because I still didn't like the idea of a vehicle getting that low of gas mileage, but my protests were ignored. My husband is sorry he didn't listen now.

I feel the same about the gas I agree with the OP but I figure we can`t do anything about it.

I'll be honest... I'm not worried about the price of gas. It used to cost me $30 to fill up my sedan, now it costs $50. With a fill up a week, I'm spending an extra $80 a month, or about $1000 a year.
If your finances are so stretched that you can't afford an extra $100 expense a month, you have more important things to worry about besides the rising price of gas.

Same here. I'm tired of people complaining about the price of gas. Is an extra $20 a fillup really breaking your budget? If it is, then you need to really look at your expenses, because you aren't spending your money wisely.

Moderator cut: comment You do not know the situation of everybody, an extra $20-$50 a week can be an awful lot for many low-wage workers. It has nothing to do with spending your money wisely.

Think about it. If your budget is so tight that you can't afford a $20 fluctuation in the cost of a tank of gas, you have bigger problems than increasing fuel costs. You either need to look into cutting your existing expenses, or increasing your income. Both are hard work, and I can understand why people are complaining about the cost of gas. It's much easier to complain about something that is out of your control than it is to improve your current living situation.
The cost of gas sucks. Nobody likes the psychological shock of seeing $4.00 for a gallon of gas. You can either complain about it, or you can move on. Stressing out over a situation you can't control is ridiculous. If one section of your budget increases, then you need to cut down something else (cable, groceries/eating out, cell phones, clothing), or increase your income through an extra/better job or education.
