Karla......I do work from home and all those noises are part of my day and I love all the activity.
What drives me absolutely bananas is SILENCE....I hate it.

I prefer working from an office because I get lazy at home. I do bring work home sometimes but it takes twice as long to do it here mostly because my mind wonders and I get distracted by the TV or a book....or a nap

However, I am the best at tuning things out! Having 3 kids has trained me well in this area.

Default Home is where the work is...................

I do work from home for a national company. We are the largest of our kind an no one has ever heard of us(unless you happen to be in the Eye medical field) We currently have approximately 20 reps working from their homes!

Although there are perks, there are downsides to working from home too; You don't/can't participate in company functions- ie pot lucks, gift exchanges, office parties... You tend to be 'forgotten' more often. Promotions are much harder to come by. These are all things to consider before opting to be a telecommuter.

(I resent the implication that I sit in my jammies every day. FYI- if you do work at home you know how important it is to seperate your work time from your down time. Jammies is one of those deciding factors. NO JAMMIES AT WORK. Once you blur the line between home and work time, you start to feel like you are at work all the time and get quite stressed. Sorry, but this is a pet peeve of mine.)

Yes, it can be difficult to tune out what's going on around you, especially when you are at home and you can see and/or hear your neighbors going on or having their vacations. You can start to get the envies! And you see stuff around the house that 'needs' to be done. You have to be a specific personality that can focus only on what you are doing and ignore the rest.

I can and do work at home. Being a Realtor/Broker/Agent I have my home office set up so tht there really is no need to go into the office everyday. I have an HP scanner/fax/printer/copier, file cabinets, my desk, landline and cell phone. Most buyers/sellers call me on my cell phone, so it does not matter where I am at the time. Yes, I can tune out background sounds. Only my hubby gets to 'disturb' me. Which, by the way, he manages to do quite well, thank you very much.

My biggest problem with working at home is knowing that there are chores to be done around the house. And then some times I can hear a bird singing and I stop what I'm doing and go outside to try to identify said feathery critter. So, I guess I really don't tune out as much as I'd like to think that I do.

*I am a grandma, but far from gorgeous. But that's ok, my grandchildren don't know any different.

I am working from home as I write this!

Yes I could work at home full-time and be able to tune out most things, except my hubby's loud voice when he's on the phone with his clients, even behind his office's closed doors!

What I like about working from home is that I could put in a load of laundry during my "break time". I cannot work in PJ's...puts me to sleep, especially if it's snowing back in my old state! TV, dogs and kids don't bother me. What I found out on days when I work at home, I start earlier and end later...maybe not a good thing, but without the time of the commute, and having to blow-dry your hair and put on make-up, the time is better spent working!

Todays Question:

Could you/would you work from home if given the chance?
I sure could!

Bonus Question:
Would you be able to "tune out" everything going on around you?
Pretty much. It comes with practice.

IE; ringing phones, barking dogs, your other half running the vac or the TV

Extra credit:
Have you ever worked from home?
I've been working from home for the past five years as a medical transcriptionist and love it!

Cool All-You-Can-Eat-Food-Fest: O Negative

Could I work from home? Most definitely.

As a former HS English teacher, I did it all of the time. Sometimes, however, it was easier than at other times -- the nicest thing was being able to stay in my jammies, and set my own schedule. Very much a morning person, I often get up early, early, early to get on the computer, and when I was still teaching, that is often how I managed some of the day just for myself.

Since I have retired, it is much harder to stay focused, sometimes, and I don't really understanbd why -- probably because there isn't the pressure to meet a deadline, or be on a schedule per se. Just recently, I've had an opportunity to write some, for a realtor, and I would really enjoy doing it more as a job-job, which would help with setting a schedule, putting the time aside to do the writing, and force me to better-tune some of my computer skills.

National MOSQUITO Day! Does this mean go-out-and-kill-as-many-as-you-can? Surely, I am not expected to treat mosquitoes to dinner, or something!

S-R, I've read that, if they want $$ up front, it's a scam.

Oh, Gosh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to imply that anyone else does that. What I was trying to say was that I would get complacent and wouldn't be disciplined enough myself to get dressed for work and do what should be done when it should be done. Please understand that I did not mean any slight to anyone on that. It's how I feel I would be if I had an at-home job.
