Ice ~ what is the correct type?
I remember many months ago the TP question of over or under. It appeared that many members here are or were confused with the correct way to place a new roll of TP on the holder.
This is another one of those all important questions that deserves an answer. Most important it will determine the proper way we should “cool” our drinks from this day forward.
I’ve noticed that there are ice cubes, ice chips, round rolls of ice with a hole in the center, and “ shaved ice”; there may even be more types that I’ve never seen. So what do you use or should use to cool your drink on a hot day?

Oh well that depends entirely on what I'm drinking.
If it's a bundy and coke or an iced tea or iced coffee then ice cubes are what I want. Yeah, I guess I should add rolled ice would be just as good here. And definitely solid ice for Bailey's on ice.
If it's a margarita, or an illusion or a slurpee then crushed ice or I guess shaved ice is what I'm wanting.

The ice that is round roll with a hole in it like a tube or pipe is best because it has a large amount of surface to cool the drink and yet large enough to not melt quickly.

I have never seen rolled ice. If you look at the question of the day for Saturday you will see I've not done a lot of things.lol
Thanks for explaining what rolled ice is.
I use cubed, chipped hurts my teeth.

A roll with a hole in the center of it like a pipe (maybe an inch long) !

Rolled ice does have a lot of surface to cool the drink, but I think the shape is just too weird. It just doesn't "feel" right against my lips.
Ever since I was served sparling cider with crushed ice (not Slurpee ice) at a fancy schmancy restaurant, I've thought there is an elegance to serving everyday drinks this way. The ice adds sparkle, plus it's more conducive to relaxing and sipping a drink rather than gulping. Also, the drink seems to be much colder than normal. I'm assuming that's because there's a whole lot of ice surface through which the drink passes.
Iced tea just wouldn't look quite right without cubed ice!

Depends on what I'm drinking it with but usually crushed is the best. In Sangria I like cubed and only a couple, I don't want to water it down. : )

I agree - depends on the drink. AksarbeN, you must do a lot of thinking. I'm worried about you, buddy!

If I don’t ask the hard questions and do the research ~ Who will?
It’s important to know just what type of ice is best for you. I’m drinking iced coffee or tea all day long out here in this hot weather, and I need to know if I’m doing it right or if there is something better.
Some types of ice will back up in the glass when you tip it to take a sip! Next thing you know ~ you have your drink spilled all over yourself. This shouldn’t happen and the right type of ice will prevent this from happening. The roll or pipe type of ice “never” causes a problem like this, but you have to worry about the cubes and chunks of ice all the time.
