I’m a #2++,,,,, please don’t make me have to enjoy my birthday or anyone else’s. I have special people that I will celebrate birthdays with and it’s kind of a private thing really. I don’t know those strangers at other tables who are singing off tune and can’t remember the words. I don’t want to sing for them and I don’t want them singing for me. Baa-hummbug ! Keep the desserts and take 10% off my bill if you want to make me happy and the desserts are normally not that good anyway.
On the other hand a lot of this depends on the type of restaurant ~ some of them specialize in celebrating special days and it’s expected that customers are enjoying a special meal and celebrating. I generally don’t visit this type of business, but it’s ok for others if they like it.
What is your opinion of the "restaurant" acknowledgment of the celebration of your birth ?
I think it is very fun! Especially when it is not my birthday! Has anyone ever been to Hooters for their birthday, I don't know if they do this anymore, but I took a friend there once for his birthday and they made him wear a dress, stuck a hot dog in his mouth and he had to stand on a table. Then they sang happy birthday to him! It was hilarious.
Which group do you fall in If I had to pick a group I would pick 1. I like watching other tables and will even join in singing HB to you !!
4. Bring it on baby !!!!!! I will even wear the birthday hat
And 5. Why didn't you tell me I would get a free dessert hmmm can I change my answer
Much depends on the circumstances and the restaurant. I think it is inappropriate in a dimly lit, live musician type restaurant. Anything else is pretty much fair game. My mood seems to be changing over the years and I have had days where I was #1, #2, #3 and #4. And some things like this are reserved for the very young and the very old. The median age of those at your table determine which category you fall into.
Mr. VA said he never wants that man to come visit here. Bad weather seems to follow him around. Has anyone else noticed that?
We have friends that live near that big lake and he has told Mr. VA that he can hear alligators at night so he doesn't venture out. Mr. VA called him several times yesterday to see if he was still alive or had been eaten by an alligator.
Karla, any alligators around you? Keep inside and stay safe. With all that rain, Florida ought to be floating by now. Oh, I forgot, Florida always floats, or it gets sink holes. This should keep you floating for a while. How much rain have you had where you are?
If someone even considers having "Happy Birthday" sung to me at a restaurant I do the following:
1) Hide while I plot my attack.
2) Come out from under the table brandishing super soakers and I let loose.
3) Hold manager hostage.
4) Issue a statement through the media which I long to be a part of again that says the manager will be freed IF the practice of making fools out of employees and birthday people is abolished.
5) If that doesn't happen, I order a chopper and have someone bring the attack cat to me.
6) Get cat stoned.
7) Turn her loose and have her get the munchies on everyone's meal. When the weed wears off (We still have warrants out in South Carolina.....See Jacksonville thread for that bit of insanity.) the cat goes ape poop on the cops.
8) Since that WILL work, practice ends, I get medication and I have done the world a huge favor.
The owner of the One Stop in our neighborhood is a friend of ours. She always gives us something for our birthday if she knows we are there on that day. Last year she gave my husband a pint of local honey !
