Mommy22, I agree, if I had children a landline would be an absolute necessity. With the 2 of us, we have 2 cells which is very convenient for us. And, yes, we have been known to say "Hey, hon, would you please call me so I can find my phone??"

must have 1 cord phone without transformer or battery
So far it’s not been said when referring to the landline phone ~ so many of us (me included) have those cordless ones, you’ll also need a hard phone without batteries or transformers that require power outlets to operate as a telephone. I think a plain old cord phone to plug into the hardline telephone jack is a requirement if you are a person who thinks they should have a landline for emergencies in these new times of weather disasters and emergencies. The phones are very cheap, they’re like having a flashlight ~ you don’t have to use it everyday nor do you have to keep it out on the table for everyone to see because they’re not a decorator item in your house. So get a flashlight and cord phone and put it in the closet for when you need them. We’re having a lot of power outages in our metro area right now with all the thunderstorms coming through the areas, so phones with transformers plugged into power outlets just don’t work.

Good question! However, I hope never to give up our yellow, rotary dial, out of date wall phone. In times of severe storms, old yellow comes through for us. Still use our cell phones.

It’s funny but I can hear the bells on the old wall phones like “ol’ yeller ~ and I can’t hear the cell phone even if it’s sitting in under my nose.

Geeze, we have our old black rotary from 1944 that we still use. It has large numbers you can easily read along with those big alphabet letters. The big handle receiver makes it easy to hear and talk into. And the ringer we can hear all over the house when someone calls.
Our kids got us a cell phone. We're still trying to figure it out. Everytime we hear some silly song playing we open it up and all we see is some picture or teeny weeny numbers that we can't figure out. My wife thought it was a miniature portable TV. Everytime she opens it up she pushes a button for some TV station looking for "one lost life to live", or something like that.
Man I wish they would bring back that old cranker we used to have. So reliable, like the Model A we still drive to the grocery store. Modern technology drives us nuts.

Well if you have to give ol yeller up Pottery Barn sales a version of that phone. Available in black, chrome or red. We actually have one. Our kids are only allowed to speak on the family phone, which is that one. No wandering around the house speaking in private here LOL! Actually I remember we had the old yellow rotary phone on our desk in the family room. I used to stretch the cord all the way to the closet and sit in the closet when I was a teen to "talk in privacy".

We dropped our home phone 5 or 6 years ago and don't miss it at all. I don't use the phone much, though. We have wireless internet and don't need a home phone.
