I don't have a home phone. I only use my cell. My adult son does the same thing. I leave my phone on until I go to bed, then it's off. I do have a fax machine, so I suppose if someone really had an emergency after I went to bed, they could fax me. To be honest, I really don't want to be bothered with phone calls when I'm home. People have all day to bother me. When I'm home, leave me alone.

I have no use for a regular phone land line
I efax for faxing
and I hate places that will not accept the idea you do not have a home phone there is no alternate number just my cell.

Only issue you will have is that 911 cannot do reverse 911 if there is an emergency going on.

Lets say there was a nearby chemical spill the enhanced 911 system is able to call all the residents who live in the area affected.

This currently cannot be done to cell phones.
I learn this several months ago the nuclear plant near me alarms was going off and I did not get any warnings so I called the power company and he told me it was just a test of the alarms and they sent out reverse 911 to inform the residents which of course I did not get due to my cell.

Oh yes we got a call when the Apex warehouse blew up regarding the air quality so now I know what you are talking about! I did not realize it was called a reverse 911 and I thought it just came from the city. Thanks!

Not true here. I called 911 to report a major accident on the freeway I had just witnessed and my cell phone dropped the call. When I got to another part of the freeway, 911 was calling me back and I did not give them my number yet.

that is called caller ID

reverse 911 is when a reporting emergency agency broadcasts a single message to a particular district

I have only had a cell phone for the past 5 or so years. So far, I haven't had any problems related to not having a home phone.

I suppose if there were some sort of city-wide disaster and the reverse 911 system couldn't call my cell phone...I would rely on my friends and neighbors, or the people running away, or the news to get me the info.

Got rid of home phone and placed a cell in each family members pocket. I did this over a year ago. I love it.
