LOL.. the thunder of an old Pratt and Whitney JT-8 turbo-jet engine, at 95% throttle, about 100 feet away, is definitely louder than a hurricane! and the motor on an old Dodge Dart I had 32 years ago, when I was 19, also sounded like a hurricane!

There was a Hurricane Charley while I worked at my last hospital. We did an amazing job of preparation and had everything perfectly planned. Charley fizzled out before it reached us. It was a good rain storm, but little in the way of winds or damage or problems.

The next day, the headline in the Daily News was "Charley's All Wet". That damn headline was hanging all over my offices!!
Believe it or not, my mother's name is Charlie too! We laughed about that.

I don't think there has been a Hurricane Paula! Or a Hurricane Kay!
Those of you who are praying folks, please be in prayer for this area, espcecially New Orleans. We are beginning to get many, many evacuees today here in Dallas from New Orleans.

No hurricane named after me.
I remember several from the retired list, but Hazel and Hugo are the only ones I experienced. Hazel almost blew me off the front porch in Wilkes County, N. C. when I was just a child. I had to hang on to the porch post. My mother had warned me not to go outside, but you know how children are. I did not believe her. Mr. VA, my son and I spent the night in the hallway of our home in Union County, NC when Hugo came through with gusts up to 100 mph.

We are keeping our eyes on Hanna. I don't like hurricanes that start with H.
