News, Why it's so hard to swat a fly.
CHICAGO (Reuters) - The brains of flies are wired to avoid the swatter, U.S. researchers said on Thursday.
At the mere hint of a threat, the insects adjust their preflight stance to flee in the opposite direction, ensuring a clean getaway, they said in a finding that helps explain why flies so easily evade swipes from their human foes.

Much to my chagrin, I have become an expert fly swatter this summer and had figured that one out on my own. It's good to know that a scientific (yay, science) study has confirmed my experience. I don't know why so many flies showed up around my house, but if they show up next year, I'm going to use "fly napalm" on them.

This story is a honey and all the buzz in the papers but it doesn't fly. As a matter of fact, they're just trying to wing it but why shooed they? There's a fly in the ointment. Don't mean to fly off the handle but these flies are full of sh*t.

It's hard to swat a fly cuz they have about 900 zillion eyes and can see everywhere at once. The report forgot to mention that.

John, I read somewhere that flies take off backwards and if you aimed about 2 inches behind them, you are likely to score a direct hit. I dunno, but it seems to work.

Very true if you use your hand.
I use rubber bands - much easier.
