When folks ask "Where are you from?" Do you tell them the place you were born or grew up ?
(you do not have to give the city(ies) if you don't want to)
I don't tell them either place. I was born in Newark, NJ. We moved to Trenton, NJ when I was 5. I lived there until I went into the Air Force. After I fought the battle of Rantoul, and kept the commies out of central Illinois, I moved to suburban Chicago. Since I have been here twice as long as I was in NJ I tell people I'm from suburban Chicago. If they ask where my strange accent came from I tell them I was born in NJ.
Extra Credit Question:
How far do you live from the place you were born ?
It's 822 miles from Newark, NJ to Newark, IL. I live about 10 miles east of Newark, IL. I guess the answer would be 812 miles.
Bonus Question:
How many times do you think Mike will be "sent to his room" while I am gone ?
I have faith in Mike. People pick on this poor man. I think he only be sent to his room one time. I just don't think anyone will let him out until you get back. I checked ahead, and Oct is National Chili month. Someone make sure Mike has enough chili to keep him going until Karla gets back. Make sure the windows are open.

I always say I live .... now but I am from .....
Where I live now is 14 miles from where I grew up but I have lived as far away as 1900 miles. I didn't like being away from family so we moved back to be close by all my relatives.

I have a bone to pick with this question. I get it all the time and I am somewhere between stumped and sick of that question. The last state I lived in before now was Florida but I am certainly not from there. That's where I spent my working years, period. Florida was simply a stepping stone from where I'm from to where I am.
2,350 miles.
Zero. Mike is generally well-behaved for guest questioners. And if he isn't, I'll have to deal with him more harshly than usual.

I was born and grew up in the same place, so I am from Kearney, Ne. I currently live about 60 miles from there and the furthest I got away was Omaha which is about 180 miles from Kearney. So I have never lived anywhere but Nebraska. I do sometimes have the urge to try something different, but I don't think Mrs. tpabes will let it happen.
Mike will get sent to his room 1 time. I think there will be a question where he just can't help himself. I keep thinking though, with his love of aviation and the doghouse that he has a dog house like Snoopy's where he can fly around.
Have fun Karla!

Born and raised in the same place.
Where I live now, people do not ask where I'm from they state "you're not from here are you?" Guess I cannot (nor do I want to) get away from my New England accent.
I live 1,470.85 miles from where I was born & raised. (good ol map quest).
I figure Mike will get sent to his room oh maybe 4 times.
Karla hope you have fun and safe travels. Gonna miss you. HUGS

I live in the Dallas area, about 7 hours from where I was born and grew up out in the Panhandle of Texas-Lubbock.
And yes, if people ask where I'm from, I say "Lubbock."
Mike? Oh, I would also say about 5 times.

The answer depends on who is asking the question. If someone asks me where I'm from and they have a New York accent, I'll say, "Bayridge Brooklyn." No accent I say, "NYC." If it's someone is trying to get me to tour a timeshare, I tell them I'm a local and keep walking.
I think I live almost 2000 miles away from where I was born.
Your last question made me spill my coffee! My guess is "Bad Boy Mike" will be sent to his room five times. I've got a feeling he's going to act-up while your on vacation! Have fun, we'll take care of Mike!

When folks ask "Where are you from?" Do you tell them the place you were born or grew up ? I ubually say both places, I was born in Walden Colorado but have spent most of my life in California
Extra Credit Question:
How far do you live from the place you were born ? Quite a ways away, I do plan on going to Walden just to see where I was born
Bonus Question:
How many times do you think Mike will be "sent to his room" while I am gone ? I can't count that high.
