Favorite Holidays
What are the most symbolic and meaningful days for you. Easter and Valentines are my favourite. The worst of the winter has gone and the the weather is improving. Valentines is great. I can't get enough of those short bread heart shaped cookies. Easter is symbolic of new life. Unlike Christmas and New Years (which you need a holiday to recover from and rest of the year to pay off ) these other holidays seem more personal and not overcommercialized

I agree Christmas is over commercialized, but it is my favorite since it is a celebration of the birth of my Savior Jesus Christ.

Personally I have always been partial to Halloween. I love stepping into another persona for a few hours.

My favorites are Thanksgiving and Passover... good food, family/friends, important stories, and so on. The only tough part about Passover, is that you're not supposed to eat leavened bread for 7 days. I usually don't last more than a day or two, but that's enough to make me think about what the holiday means (our Exodus & freedom from slavery in Egypt). The best thing about both holidays is spending time with loved ones, some of whom I don't get to see much during the year.
Btw, we have an old joke about Jewish holidays, and how they all have the same basic premise - "They tried to kill us, we survived, let's eat!"

Christmas - first and foremost because of the true meaning of it. I second what ILNC said and that sums it up. In addition to the true meaning, I love the decorations, they just give me a very content, peaceful feeling when I see the outside or inside of a home decorated, when I see stores decorated, it' also a reminder of my childhood and the fun I had and the white christmases we actually got! I also like watching people open what I got for them...and of course stuffing my face, putting pj's on and drinking hot chocolate. Actually, being Italian, we stuff our faces and open presents both Christmas Eve and Christmas (so it's 2 nights of food, presents, pj's and hot chocolate!!!).
Secondly, I love Halloween. I love dressing my kids up...I totally throw myself completely into it and come up with some pretty cool costumes...I really have fun with the kids. I also love the colors and because fall is my favorite season and October is my favorite month, the black and orange just enhance the beautiful leaves outside and the cool yet creepy bare branches on trees. It's a fun holiday when you have children and it's the last holiday of the year that you may be able to run around without jackets (if it's warm enough). Lastly, while I'm not into it in the Pagan or Druid sense, I do like the creepiness to Halloween.
Fourth of July - while I'm not a huge fan of fireworks, they can be fun to watch...but I love the fact that we are 1. celebrating our country, 2. doing it outside with a bbq and 3. kicking off summertime for the kids (and me 'cause I'm a big kid LOL).....can it get any better than that, seriously?
