Yeah, I know, the only person that I completely trust to watch my son is my grandmother! There is a staggering number out there, one in 3 or 4 children have been molested..

I dont think the world is becoming more evil at all. I do think howerver, that the media (being alot bigger now than say 50 years ago) are publicisng it now. People WANT to see crap like that in the news. They want to see all the people in Iraq being killed, they want to hear about the murders in various states etc etc. This is why we see so much more crap on TV every day.
Reality TV shows are another big example of this. Nobody will watch Big Brother, or any other kind of show if it was like every day life. So what happens, people who are opposites are put together, just so arguements and fights will occoure. its a sad state the world is in.

I'm not trying to add fuel to this fire, but I would like to know what would drive someone to do what this father did to his daughter. ( link below) I've been in utter shock and disbelief since seeing this on the news a few weeks ago. I just don't understand how someone could do this to any child, especially your own.

Don't let the few evil people out there make you so fearful, or make you doubt mankind. I truly believe that most people are good, most people want to help, most people would never harm a child. Unfortunately, evil people do exist, but I believe they are a minority.

theres so much of that going on where i live
i am so scared to put my child in daycare when its time for me to go back to working
i just have to do my research on the place and pray that it just works out
it is so sad to hear about these children and babys getting abused by even even there own mom and dad
it should not matter how related you are to that child whether blood or just a stranger off the street
they should either be locked up with no ties to the outside world or be locked up tortured and abused for the rest of there lives

I ask myself that question daily because I work in retail, and people really can be evil............lol The worse part about it is I can't do anything about it but listen and agree, or nod my head in understanding. Of course there are always people who make up for the ones that are evil by going out of their way to do/or say something nice.

"Personally I feel any rights should be stripped from these types of people, and they should be shot on sight. Why keep feeding them? Just kill them and let God sort them out. Public execution of child abusers and killers...that's what I'd like to see."
My husband has said this same thing.
Maybe if this were to happen it would make people think twice before abusing a child

I would have to agree with your statement. If one looks back into history, one will find evil of the worst sort. The Roman Empire comes to mind, as just one such example. There have always been good and decent people, and there have always been those who do not hesitate to do evil to their fellow man, be it a stranger or their own family members, (bumping off one's siblings or parents, to gain control of a throne doesn't strike me as being overly benevolent ). I believe that the reason it seems as though the world is getting worse, is because of the media, as you mentioned. We can see the violence and bloodshed in every conceivable form. It's a contant flow on the cable news networks. You can hear it on the radio. You can access it online. The world has always been a violent place. There is no difference between the arena of the Roman Empire, and the nonsense we see on tv today, except their lack of our technology to allow more people to see it.
I would agree that the death penalty is the best solution for such people, but as MoMark pointed out, that can be a problem when one has to take into consideration the possibility of innocence. These cases have to be taken, very carefully, on a one by one basis. There are obviously cases, such as Dahmer or Bundy, etc, that there is no doubt, whatsoever, and the death penalty needs to be used, (of course, Dahmer got his own sentence carried out by the inmates). But, the possible errors that can be, and sometimes are made, makes it incumbent upon us, as a society, to be extremely careful in utilizing a death sentence. So, as MoMark said, locking them up and throwing away the key, works for me also! Unfortunately, there are many do-good lawers out there, not to mention those who are merely out to make a name for themselves, that cause a major rift in the legal system by trying to get these "people" out of prison. There really are no easy answers, are there?

I agree with CelticLady and MoMark. I read an excellent book awhile back with case after case of people who were proven to be innocent (after they were "disposed of". All I could think of was...what if it were me or a family member.
A few years ago I kept reading about our local crime rate and figured all I could do was pray. Every day I did just that-- I prayed for our city like I'm sure many others were--and you know the crime rate really did start going down.
It has skyrocketed, again so thank you for posting this. It reminded me of what I should do.

Good and decent people don't understand evil when they see it many times, is why it is so extant now and allowed to perpetuate. Also more people on the planet equals more evil on the planet. It really takes educating oneself and keeping eyes and ears open to it at all times. Someone above in this thread made a good comment: the legislatures, and especially the judges, do not necessarily care, nor are they looking out for you or your children. I say, no rehab for monsters!
There is an earlier book by M. Scott Peck, called The People of the Lie. He attempts to explain evil, a pretty good read.
