The one on the left was your high/low gear (push to take off in low, let it out for high, halfway in was neutral), the one in the middle was reverse, the one on the right was the brake!

If you drove a model T that is...

How many out there remember the Willys Knight and what kind of motor it had. Some of the younger folks will be lost on this one. Originally there was the Willys and the Willys Knight (two different motors). How about the Terraplane and Hupmobile. Which was air cooled? How about the Essex and Durant...any knowledge or thoughts. Many of the old cars of the 20's-30's were good running but for some reason...maybe advertising...finiky people...they never sold well. On the 31 Ford Model A I had...the gas tank was on top by the winshield and the gas guage (round glass) showing the level inside the dash panel. Would buy $0.50 of gas at 12c a gallon that lasted me a week. Dang, good old memories compared to todays economy. Steve

This was my grandfathers family car. I think it was a Willy's...

Gas tank was on top because it used gravity feed for fuel. No pump. Never drove a Model T I remember something about high & low speed pedals. My 48 Chevy had a starter pedal . I worked on a lot of that old stuff in the 50's but never owned anything older than the 48.

The 57 Chevy. My dad bought a brand new one that year. Evidently he bought the basic model because it did not have a radio. He had a radio that he placed behind the back seat by the rear window. My job was to keep turning the angle of the radio so the signal would come in clear. My parents traded this vehicle for a station wagon some 4 years or so later as our family grew to 5 children. I don't think anyone realized how popular and what a classic the 57 Chevy would become in the years after. On the rare ocassions I ever see a 57 Chevy anymore I instantly think of my parents my siblings and my childhood and all the great times we had in that car. Definitely the 57 Chevy is my favorite car of yesterday.

Oh gosh, too many times to remember. I believe that was the time I learned a whole new vocabulary of swear words.
