I didn't have a '77 Trans-Am, but something close. A 1979 Camaro Z-28. I posted this picture before, but I'll go ahead and post it again. This was taken in 1982, with my girlfriend back then, in the White Mountains of Arizona, near Pine Top, elevation 7,200 feet. That was our favorite summer get-away, and favorite place to see fall colors. That was also the car I was ticketed in for speeding, twice on the same day, and within an hour's timespan! So I guess it wasn't like Smokey And The Bandit! I got pulled over the first time just before we got into the city of Payson, AZ on highway 87, then about 30 minutes east of Payson on highway 260. Livewire, it was the same route we took when we went up to Showlow last year. I gave Lynn the keys to the Z-28 after I got the second ticket, and I joked with her and told her that I think I had enough speeding tickets for the day! She drove about 65-75 MPH for the rest of the way, and nobody bothered her!

I loved those IROC-Z's also 6/3, but Chevrolet didn't have them in the 1970's, I think the very first year Chevy produced them was in 1985. I also think they added the fuel injection in 1987.
I loved old Mustangs also! I know the 1970 through 1973 Mustangs, were the best Ford ever produced in that decade. You couldn't give me a 1974 through a 1978 Mustang II, which looked like a big Pinto and it lacked the quality and the horespower. For a brief period of time, I had a 1978 Mustang Cobra. It was a joke, and I got rid of it.
The one good Mustang I had was a 1984 GT, with the 5.0 engine, it was red and black, and it had a T-top, and it was a sharp car. I bought it in 1985, and drove it until 1997. I put over 180,000 hard miles on it, and it was still running great the day I traded it in, which was in April of 1997.
I'll try to find pictures of it.

I also liked Jackie Gleason, as Sheriff Buford P. Justice, and all of his funny lines in the movie. One example is when he had his car on the side of the road, with the door wide open, and an Oriental truck driver, who was coming down the highway, sees it and goes "Bonzai!" and he hits the door and tears it right off the car. Gleason goes:
Sheriff: I saw that you sum-bitc* ! you did that on purpose! You're gonna go away 'till you're gray... I got the evidence right here!
he turns to his son and tells him to pick up the door and put it in the car, and says:
Sheriff: Put the evidence in the car
Son replies: But daddy!
Sheriff (Louder with a more emphatic tone) PUT THE EVIDENCE IN THE CAR!!!
Son complies and goes to pick up the door
Sheriff (yells at the truck driver) I gotta Barbeque yo as$ in molases!

Well, I didn't drive it in the 70's, but it was made in the 70's, and I miss it, so I guess it belongs here: my 1979 Datsun 280ZX.

It's allright 6/3 - I know the Z-28 made its debut in the late 1960's, but it made a brief hiatus after 1973 because of the gas crisis, and I think it came back in 1977, it only looked somewhat nice, but it definitely didn't have the engine performance of the 1977 Trans-Am.
The best improvement in engine performance in the Camaro was the fuel injection, when it was introduced with the 1987, Rally Sport, Z-28, and the IROC-Z, with the 5.7 Litre (350 CI) engine.
If you're looking for a classic Camaro, look at the ones that were made from 1967, through 1973. Skip the rest of the 70's, and the ones that were made up until 1984. Start with the 1985 IROC-Z, through the 1992, which was the last year for that body style. The ones that were made from 1993, through 2004, and the Trans-Am's, just didn't appeal to me for some reason.
Okay back to the 70's - I agree with you about those AMC Ramblers! I'm also sure you remember the AMC Pacer! Yeah that's a classic!
