Good morning. I can't imagine how difficult yet proud, day to day life would be for people with family members fighting in this war. Thank you to you and yours for keeping us safe.
My father served in WW I and WW II. My husband is retired from the Navy.
I'm glad to see the vanilla cupcake is not forgotten, however it wouldn't be my first choice.

Today"s Question:
Have you served or have a family member who has served or is serving in the military ? I have had several family members serve, but the most important to me is my Dad.
Today in History:
On November 11 at 11:11, 1921 the U.S. France and England each buried an unknown soldier in honor of those who died in World War I. This began the annual Armistice Day holiday. The time and day was picked because fighting ceased in WWI in 1918 on November 11 at 11:11. In 1954, President Eisenhower changed it to Veteran's Day in honor of those who served and died from all wars.
Word of the Day:
cabotage \KAB-uh-tahzh\ noun
1 : trade or transport in coastal waters or airspace or between two points within a country
2 : the right to engage in coastal trade or transport
Today is:
National Sundae Day
and
National Vanilla Cupcake Day but I want chocolate!
it is also
National School Pride Day
WOOHOO! Our School is Pleasant Valley & we are the Bears!
and
National Air Day
and most important of all
National Thank a Veteran Day !!!![/quote]
Have a wonderful day today..I know I will & it's mostly because of all who fought for our freedom...pat yourself on the back for me, veterans!

My dh was special forces, his older brother a Ranger, and his younger brother served in the Navy and is now active Reserve. I had three older cousins who served in Nam and one has many medals from there. He got so disgusted he threw them all in a river right after the war, and last year, for his birthday, my aunt presented him with all his medals- somehow she had contacted someone and found out how to get them replaced. He is in his 60's now, and when she presented him with the shadow box full of medals, he cried.
My uncle fought in Korea and also in Nam.
I was lucky, all my family survived the wars and came home. Many of their friends did not.
The tomb of the unknown soldier is a place every one should go at least once and witness the changing of the guard. I will never forget that experience, it was so touching.

Family members who have served:
Uncle was in the Navy in WWII.
Father-in-law was in the Army in WWII.
Husband was in the Air Force in Viet Nam before it officially started. His orders were TDY so Viet Nam is probably not mentioned in his record. Luckily we kept the TDY orders.
Oldest brother was in the Air Force in Korea and Viet Nam and several years in Alaska.
Youngest brother was in Army Artillery in Viet Nam and saw a lot of action.
Brother-in-law was in the Army in Viet Nam.
Son was in the Navy during Desert Storm. He served on the USS Santa Barbara and the USS Sylvania after it was recommissioned.
Joke for the day compliments of my son: What is fear?
Answer: Hearing a ballistic missile bounce down a ship elevator shaft.

I have not, but my youngest brother spent time in the Air Force, and got to tour the desert back in 91 for quite a while. He was with the Stealth Fighter and got to go all over the world.
Uncle was an honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Solder for a time. Something he is still profoundly proud of.
There are others but way back, Civil War.

Seriously, I served with people who lost their lives or parts of their bodies in Viet Nam.

I lived in Rankin, Ill during these years and visited Chanute AFB with my father many times!
So you're the reason they shut down!!!
Seriously, thanks for your service.
