Today"s Question:
Have you served or have a family member who has served or is serving in the military ?
My mother, biological father and step-father were all career Air Force. My Aunt served in the Army. My husband has an Uncle who retired from the Air Force, one who served in the Navy and a cousin who is about to be shipped to Iraq.
I went through Basic and was in Tech School when my knee blew out in front of an instructor, so I was seperated within a month. My husband also was in Tech School when a medical problem caused him to be seperated as well.
I thank my Veteran friends and family everyday for their part in helping us be a free country.

My father served in the Army Air during WWII. Both of my brothers and my husband served during Nam. They all came home. One of my brother's was so damaged mentally he didn't live well for the few years he had left. My other brother refuses to talk about his time in the Special Forces and isn't interested in going hunting. I know he received metals but have never seen them. My husband - well bless his heart - he has gotten past his nightmares.
I salute anyone that has family members serving our country.

Bydand, Your uncle has a right to be proud. That is an honor which has to be earned every day of the duty. I was lucky enough to be stationed at Ft. Belvior, VA for AIT, so I had the opportunity to visit Arlington Cemetary, the Wall, and to see the changing of the gaurd at the tomb. That was a truly moving experience.

My husband lied about his age and was enlisted in the Navy when he was 14. When his mother found out where he was, she blabbed and he was discharged when he was 17. The whipping his mother gave him was enough to prevent him from enlisting again when he was legal age.
I will spare you all my sentiment regarding his mom.

My husbands 3 uncles enlisted in the AF during WW2, 2 were shot down and killed and have been mentioned in history books. His grandfather was the telegraph operator/stationmaster in NoDak and received both messges that his sons had been lost. There was a move to name Minot AFB after them but some senator who had a son in the service demanded it be named after his son-so to settle it it was named Minot.
We took a trip out here last year and at a cafe in a small town there was a wall covered with stories about his uncles and we had the pleasure of speaking with a very elderly gentleman who knew them all. Imagine after all those years and there was that wall!

Sorry about that, Alice. My husband lied about his age when he first went into the Navy. The truth came out, and he was sent back and told to re-enlist when he was old enough. He did. He never mentioned any problem with his parents because of it.
