Todays question Tuesday 11-11-08
Good morning everyone
Happy Tuesday
Today is Veteran's Day
Reading the posts in the Thank You thread AksarbeN started filled my heart with such a overwhelming pride to be in the company of so many wonderful folks that remember and honor those that served our great country.
So I would like to Honor all of our posters who have served or have had family members that served or are serving by asking just one
Today"s Question:
Have you served or have a family member who has served or is serving in the military ?
Today in History:
On November 11 at 11:11, 1921 the U.S. France and England each buried an unknown soldier in honor of those who died in World War I. This began the annual Armistice Day holiday. The time and day was picked because fighting ceased in WWI in 1918 on November 11 at 11:11. In 1954, President Eisenhower changed it to Veteran's Day in honor of those who served and died from all wars.
Word of the Day:
cabotage \KAB-uh-tahzh\ noun
1 : trade or transport in coastal waters or airspace or between two points within a country
2 : the right to engage in coastal trade or transport
Today is:
National Sundae Day
and
National Vanilla Cupcake Day
it is also
National School Pride Day
and
National Air Day
and most important of all
National Thank a Veteran Day !!!!

Yes my wonderful Dad was in Patton's army and was DD+6. He was shipped out the day I was born and returned when I was 2. My Godfather also served alongside my Dad.
My husband served 22+ yrs. active duty Air Force, then Coast Guard and served in VietNam.
Thank you to all who have and who are serving our wonderful country.

I served in the USAF from 1965-69. From 66-69 I fought the battle of Rantoul, IL at Chanute AFB. We did such a good job, driving the commies out of IL, they closed the base after I left.
Seriously, I served with people who lost their lives or parts of their bodies in Viet Nam.

Although Dad did not see action overseas he was with the "Seabees" during World War II. The Seabees, part of the Navy, was known as "Construction Battalion", working on a variety of construction projects for the military.
I did not serve in the military myself. Was classified 1-Y when I registered. Out of a dozen of my high school buddies, eleven of them made it back from Nam.
There are a lot of retirees that live in my area. Was at the Veterans Day parade Saturday in Grand Jct., and there is one in Fruita later this morning. I always thank them not only today but other days as well!

My father is a WWII vet, he served in the British Army. I also have several cousins, and their children, that have either served, or are currently serving in the Armed forces.
I would have served in the Air Force but unfortunately diabetes (diagnosed at the age of 14) kept me from doing that.

My son was a nuclear technician on the USS Enterprise. His cruises included three trips into the Persian Gulf during some of the more difficult days of the wars with Iraq and Afghanistan. He served six years and was honorably discharged last year. It's good to have him out of harm's way.
