Wink POEMS... that bring a smile/tears to you face.

Having lost a Daughter recently I am reminded of this poem.

*BRING ME ALL YOUR FLOWERS NOW*

I would rather have a single ROSE
from the garden of a friend,
then have the choicest flowers
when my stay on Earth must end.
I would rather have the kindest words
which may now be said to me,
then flattered when my heart is still,
and this life has ceased to be.
I would rather have a loving SMILE
from the friends I know are true,
than tears shed around my casket,
when this world I've bade adieu!
Bring me all your flowers,
whether PINK,or WHITE, or RED.
I'd rather have ONE BLOSSOM now
then a truckload when I'm dead.

And when one of us is gone
And one of us is left to carry on
Then remembering will have to do
Our memories alone will get us through
Think about the days of me and you
Of you and me against the world

My prayers go out to those of you who have lost a loved one. There are no words to express that kind of sorrow. I don't know how to do the paste bit, but could you imagine a single, beautifully formed red rose here?

This may sound weird that this brought a smile to my face but it was a sad smile. I wrote it when I was in my teens after my mom's uncle died and he requested no flowers at his funeral. He said none of the things I wrote, my imagination just went wild.

Don't You Bring Me Flowers
by SM

Don't you bring me flowers
And lay them on my grave
Don't you bring the man of cloth
And pray my soul to save
Don't you bring your grief and tears
And shed them night and day
Just raise a glass to bygone years
And let me on my way
Don't you bring me flowers
Of colorful despair
Don't you bring me flowers
Don't you dare

Steve, this is for you--and everyone who has lost someone. I'm very sorry for you loss. I, too, lost a brother and sister in the past 2-1/2 years. My brother in '06 and my sister this year. I read this poem at my brother's memorial and gave my sister's eulogy.

Quote:

The Rose Still Grows Beyond the Wall

Near a shady wall a rose once grew,
Budded and blossomed in God's free light,
Watered and fed by the morning dew,
Shedding it's sweetness day and night.

As it grew and blossomed fair and tall,
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall
Through which there shone a beam of light.

Onward it crept with added strength
With never a thought of fear or pride,
It followed the light through the crevice's length
And unfolded itself on the other side.

The light, the dew, the broadening view
Were found the same as they were before,
And it lost itself in beauties new,
Breathing it's fragrance more and more.

Shall claim of death cause us to grieve
And make our courage faint and fall?
Nay! Let us faith and hope receive--
The rose still grows beyond the wall,
Scattering fragrance far and wide
Just as it did in days of yore,
Just as it did on the other side,
Just as it will forevermore.

~ A. L. Frink ~
Here's another version--not sure who wrote this one:

Quote:
The Rose Beyond the Wall

A rose once grew where all could see,
Sheltered beside a garden wall.
And, as the days passed swiftly by,
It spread its branches, straight and tall...

One day, a beam of light shone through,
A crevice that had opened wide~

The rose bent gently toward it's warmth,
Then passed beyond to the other side...

Now, you who deeply feel its loss,
Be comforted ~the rose blooms there~

Its beauty even greater now,
Nurtured by God's own loving care.

I have lost a child, as well...................

My Mom is a Survivor
My mom is a survivor,
or so I've heard it said.
But I can hear her crying
when all others are in bed.
I watch her lay awake at night.
and go to hold her hand.
She doesn't know I'm with her
to help her understand.
But like the sands upon a beach
that never wash away...
I watch over my surviving mom
who thinks of me each day.
She wears a smile for others,
a smile of disguise.
But through Heaven's open door,
I see tears flowing from her eyes.
My mom tries to cope with my death,
to keep my memory alive.
But anyone who knows her
knows it's her way to survive.
As I watch over my surviving mom
through Heaven's open door...
I try to tell her that
Angels protect me forevermore.
I know that doesn't help her,
or ease the burdens she bears.
So if you get a chance,
call to her
And show her that you care.
For no matter what she feels,
my surviving mom has a broken heart
that time won't ever heal.
