Thumbs down What gift(s) do you hate receiving?

I know it's not the gift but the thought, but there are certain gifts I HATE receiving. I hate hate hate getting perfumes/lotions/candles/soaps b/c invariably the person giving them doesn't know what scents I like, and gets them based on what they like. I'm VERY picky about my scents (I like soft scents like baby powder, anais anais, tommy girl, etc.) and it usually gets tossed or re gifted.
I also don't like to receive books or clothes for pretty much the same reasons.

Well now that you ask. I don’t like receiving gifts that I can’t use and I can’t return because they may have been ordered online or out of a catalog. Mrs Aks will provide a gift slip ( J.C. Penny’s) will provide so the item can be returned or exchanged without problems. I don’t know if other stores will do this or not, guess that’s why she always buys clothing there if it’s going to be sent out of town to family members.

I don't want or appreciate receiving gifts for any reason.

My MIL gave me a beautiful snowglobe 20 years ago, I liked it, I told her so, and now I've recieved snowglobes from every member of the family for 20 years. Yes some are very nice but really, I'm over the snowglobes.
And the lotions...if you don't know me well, don't get me lotions or clothing.
Other than that, just about anything goes.

Hi. Interesting thread. Do you think people will get the hint about choosing a scent for someone else?
My least favorite gift is a gift certificate. Too impersonal, but I guess it beats not receiving one! I love receiving gifts and giving them out as well.

LOL, Joan that's actually my favorite gift to get. I love that they thought about me and that I still get to get what I want.

Kali, that is too funny. all these years, all these snow globes and you don't really even like them. You could always use them for target practice. I guess it would just be waaay too tacky to start regifting them back to folks?

I really appreciate any gift that someone is thoughtful enough to give me..I can't think of any gift that I hated or regifted..A phone call, an e-mail or a hug in greeting along with "I love you" are my very favorite gifts and so easy to return the same gift to the sender..

Clothes, I hate getting clothes!! They never fit or its something I wouldn't be caught dead in.

Gift certificates are right up on the top of the list for sure, and those food goodie plates the neighbors in our neighborhood share each season are great. I actually look forward to those. I guess I am sorta at the age where gifts to me really aren't that important, I enjoy the family getting together for the holidays, seeing the kids, the grandkid and the time spent together, that is the best gift I can receive during the holidays.

Two things I hate...getting ties, don't wear a tie, and after shave lotions (potions) that I can't stand. Ewwwie...

Otherwise I appreciate whatever thought the person had in giving me a present.
