I enter some of these sweeps, but hate that they want you to buy all that junk or magazines. In my life, i've actually won a cheeseburger at Burger King for a coloring contest when I was 9, a few "family portraits", which I never claimed, a couple of spelling bees, fifty dollars from a scratch ticket, about $175 dollars at a casino (made off of $20), a t-shirt and a giant chocolate bar. Nothing even remotely exciting. But i'll enter sweeps here and there, but hold little hope of really winning something substantial.

I have been playing for over 4 years on a daily basis send in entries and order things every once in a while, have not one anything, wonder if they even pay out except for the big 5k for life, seen entries, suspect they are from pch employees saying they know a neighbor, really they make million every year, just play enjoy and don't order nothing, we will see how long they last then.....

As I mentioned in a previous post, one of the members of our community won $10,000 a couple of years ago. They gave it all to their kids.

Disclaimer: I am not, and have never been, an employee of PCH.

Reading through the thread, I got the answer to one question that had been gnawing at me for years. When I was younger, we received their mailings a few times, and all I recalled about them was that they wanted us to subscribe to various obscure magazines (thus a "clearing house for publishers"). As the years rolled on, I continued seeing ads for PCH and its competitor, American Family Publishers (the one with Ed McMahon), but we'd fallen off the mailing list. In recent years I wondered just how they managed to stay in business, since the magazine industry is basically deader than disco. Hearing that these people also try to sell you various second-rate merchandise answers my question, of course; they must be the sweepstakes equivalent of the Lillian Vernon catalog (remember them?).

I must say, however, I think their whole "$5000 a month for life" or whatever payment plan it is they publicize would be a more well-advised way of awarding these kinds of lottery/sweepstakes winnings, since it effectively stops the individuals from going out and blowing their millions in a matter of months with nothing to show for it.

^^^ Those millions are paid out over a period of 40 years. You need to read the teeny weeny fine print to see the details.
